"Stop Your Kiddin'" Proving Popular—White-
man Pianist Also Writes Several Numbers
for Mills' Popular "Storm Series"
Mid-West Music Co., Chicago, Rapidly Building
Catalog—Some of Its Numbers Which Have
at Once Attained Popularity
Ferdie Grofe, pianist for Paul Whiteman's
Orchestra and one of the original members of
that organization, has, in collaboration with
Irving Mills, a popular song in the catalog of
Jack Mills, Inc., entitled "Stop Your Kiddin'."
In addition to this number he has composed
several songs which are to be played in the
piano catalog of the same publishing house.
These latter works will be known as "The

of the Mid-West Music House, 6434 Woodlawn
avenue, this company has enjoyed a rapid
growth and in a comparatively short time its
publications have become very popular with
music dealers as well as in musical circles.
The recent featuring of "In Rose Time" in
Chicago brought out the interesting history of
the Mid-West Music House. The new Tom
l'ayton Song Shop, located at 162 North State
street, on Chicago's "Rialto," featured this num-
ber with an attractive window based on the
unique title page of the song. It contained a
large basket of roses and attractive decorations
made of the song's title pages which are in
themselves works of art.
With the # featuring" of this number and of
other popular numbers of the Mid-West Music
House the trade has become very interested in
this organization. About tw r o years ago Mrs.
Edna J. Allen Phillips began writing lyrics and
composing music, and some time later formed
the Mid-West Music House. Before the com-
pany's start, however, her work was published
by T. W. Hatch & Co., well-known publishers
of this city.
Since the formation of the Mid-West Music
House some very popular numbers have been
published, the first being "The Spanish Glide,"
words by Mrs. Phillips and music by Robert
English. Following close upon this number
were a group consisting of "Little Lad," "In
Rose Time," "Bye-Lo Baby," "By the Sea" and
"Blossoms," the latter a very popular fox-trot
melody. Another recent number, "Jane Dear,"
has been accepted in a most satisfactory manner,
indicating its popularity. All these are by Edna
Allen Phillips.
Many of these numbers have been broadcasted
from the DWAP broadcasting station. The
variety of the music that has been published
by this house'has caused a great deal of com-
ment. Upon analysis it is found to be very
original, yet soundly musical, melodious and in
no way merely freakish. Edna Allen Phillips
is a rare combination—writer of lyrics, com-
poser of music and business woman. The Mid-
West Music House is prospering under her
guidance and great things are expected of it.

The Jack Mills, Inc., piano solos, which in
the past few months have gained much popu-
larity, now comprise close to 100 selections.
Many leading modern composers have con-
tributed to the catalog, including Vincent Lopez,
Arnold Johnson, Harry Gentese, Zez Confrey
and others.
