George A. Friedman, one of the best-known
sales executives in the popular music field, has
joined the staff of Jack Mills, Inc., as sales
manager of the company. Mr. Friedman has
many years of experience in the sheet music
field. He is particularly qualified for his new
activities and his joining the Mills organization
indicates plans for further progress by that
company.
Mr. Friedman has been connected with sev-
eral of the largest music publishing houses in
the industry. He is a man of vision, optimism,
with a note of the conservatism which has been
the means of contributing to constructive and
permanent growth of the firms with which he
has been connected.

Posing as Songwriters, Strangers Endeavor to
Cash Fraudulent Checks With Dealers
Dealers throughout the country should be on
their guard against strangers entering their
establishments posing as successful songwriters.
The names of most successful composers have
been used from time to time to cash fraudulent
checks and in other ways of obtaining money
under false pretenses. Recently, in Los Angeles,
Cal., one claiming to be Gus Kahn made his
appearance. He called upon the local Remick
store in that city and, naturally, was at first
well received, being a contributor to many of
the numbers in the Remick catalog. However,
a telegram to the Detroit office of the Remick
Co. brought back a reply from Gus Kahn
charging the Los Angeles Remick store to keep
an eye on the party using his name.
NEW SICKLER BLUES NUMBER
Jesse D. Sickler is the composer and publisher
of a song called "Tall Corn Blues." Mr. Sickler
is publishing the song from his home, Ogden,
la. It has had some popularity in the Middle
R.B
The Century Music Publishing Co. has just
added fifty new issues to its catalog. The num-
bers are being published with particularly at-
tractive title pages, which lend themselves ad-
mirably to display purposes. They include
vocal, piano, violin and piano, one or two violins
and a piano, and violin, 'cello and piano selec-
tions. The titles are all well-known works and
undoubtedly will have a readv sale.

CHICAGO, I I I . , April 7.—Forster Music Pub-
lisher, Inc., recently erected a large electric sign
that is entirely original in construction and ex-
ploits the late and popular numbers of this
house and its jobbers. The sign is located in a
prominent position, attracting from three to four
hundred thousand people who pass on the
streets and the elevators. Different numbers are
exploited from time to time. Those that are
being shown this week are "Mellow Moon,"
Forster's biggest seller; "Dearest," Irving Ber-
lin's number, and "Wonderful One."
"Underneath the Mellow Moon" is now one
of the most popular hits in the country and is
practically 100 per cent mechanically reproduced
on records and rolls.
