HOLDS ITS ANNUAL MEETING
Authors, Composers and Publishers Give $1,000
to Nevin's Widow—E. C. Mills Principal
Speaker of Evening
The annual meeting and banquet of the Amer-
ican Society of Authors, Composers and Pub-
lishers was held at Keene's Chop House on the
evening of March 1. Several important changes
in the constitution and by-laws were made at
a business meeting preceding the banquet.
E. C. Mills, chairman of the executive board
of the Music Publishers' Protective Association,
was the special guest of the evening and gave
a short talk which was enthusiastically received.
Other speakers were George Maxwell, president
of the Association; Gene Buck, Ex-Senator J. J.
Frawley and Nathan Burkan, general counsel.
A committee was appointed and $1,000 appro-
priated for the widow of the late Ethelbert
Nevin, composer of "The Rosary," "Mighty Lak
a Rose," and other standard songs.
Among the new novelties issued by Boosey
& Co. is a sacred song entitled "Out of the
Ueep" (De lVofundis), the music of which is
by Vernon Eville, the we"ll-known composer of
successful waltz songs; "The Ships of Arcady,"
fiOm the song cycle, "Over the Rim of the
Moon," the words by F. Ledwidge and music
by Michael Head; a cheerful philosophical song
by William Wallace and Rex Burchell entitled
"The Song of the Clock," which has its novelty
comedy moments and should prove a ready en-
core number.
Also included are "Dream Once Again," words
by P. J. O'Reilly, music by W. H. Squire—
OMeilly is also responsible for the words of
"You Along O' Me," the music of which is by
Wilfrid Sanderson—"At the Turn of the Burn,"
with words by G. Townsend Warner and music
by Malcolm Davidson, and a Spring song en-
titled "The Best Time of the Year," with words
by Edith Apton and music by George G.
Webster. For the same season is "Be Still,
Blackbird," and "The Hawthorn Tree"; a love
song entitled "Were You to Call," words by
Albert Morse, music by Arthur Cleveland
Morse. "The Water Lily" is also described as
a love song, but the sub-title in this case is
"Louis XV Varietv."

The offices of the Music Publishers' Protec-
tive Association, American Society of Com-
posers, Authors and Publishers, will shortly
be moved from the eighteenth floor to the
eighth floor of the Lakner Building, 56 West
Forty-fifth street. The new quarters will give
the organizations much additional floor space,
a necessity owing to their having outgrown
their present offices.

fessional staff. Among those who are now
members of the organization are Harry Stover,
formerly pianist for Blossom Seeley's vaudeville
act, and Eddie Roine and Gene Bernard, both
members of the Hotel Ambassador Orchestra.
Vincent Sherwood is manager of the New York
offices and Dave Ringle is in charge of the
professional depai tment.
