COMPOSITIONS OF CESAR FRANCK
M. Witmark & Son Are the Publishers of Songs
for New Musical Comedy
Latest Addition to Musicians' Library a Most
Interesting Volume, Including Biographical
Sketch of Belgian Composer, and Some of
His Most Important and Interesting Works
A new musical comedy called "Elsie," pro-
duced by John Scholl, has its premiere in Cin-
cinnati, O., this week and will, after playing in
a number of other cities, have a New York
presentation. The piece is said to be quite
novel and is well staged, particularly the dances.
The musical numbers are from the pens of
Noble Sissle and Eubie Ulake, who were re-
sponsible for the long New York run of "Shuffle
Along." There are eight songs in all—"I Like
to Walk With a Pal Like You," "Elsie," "Jazz-
ing Thunderstorm," "Jingle Step," "A Regular
Guy," "Sand Flowers," "Two Hearts in Tune"
and "With You." The numbers are published
by M. Witmark & Sons, who were also the
publishers of the music of "Shuffle Along."
We have had "Sally," "Irene" and "Mary," all
of them big successes. It remains to be seen
whether "Elsie" can repeat the successes of
other shows dedicated to the names of girls.
Whether or not it does its appearance is ex-
pectantly awaited on I'roadway.
BROADCAST JACK SNYDER SONGS
Los Arsici-.i.r.s, CAL., December 23.—The Jack
Snyder songs were broadcasted by radio from
station K.WH, this city, last week, during the
stay of Jack Harris, general manager of Jack
Snyder, Inc., who is exploiting the Snyder pub-
lications. He is making an auto trip from coast
to coast and is expected in New York shortly.
The "November Rose" and "In Maytime" sales
have shown a decided increase at all points.

production of one of his original organ scores.
The compositions included in the volume,
which, by the way, is edited by Vincent D'Indy,
includes ten of Franck's outstanding composi-
tions, among them three of his earliest works,
together with his Eclogue Op. 3; his Premier
Grand Caprice, Op. 5; Ballade Op. 9; the Doll's
Lament; Prelude Choral and Fugue; Danse
I.ente and Prelude Aria and Finale.
MME. CHAMINADE IN CONCERT
Composer of Many Popular Works Comes Out
of Retirement to Appear in London Concert
It has been hoped for some time that Mine.
Chaminade, the composer whose works have
had more than a little popularity in this coun-
try, would again appear in public, following
which she could be persuaded to make a trip to
America. The news that Mine. Chaminade, who
has not been before the public to any extent in
recent years, has come out of retirement and
played recently at one of the Enoch Saturday
Afternoon Concerts in London is of more than
a little importance.
Following her London concert Musical
Opinion said: "Her appearance was in the na-
ture of a triumph for Mme. Chaminade. She
played her own compositions in a charmingly
suave and singing style, leaving the lavender-
like sentiment of her pieces to its own per-
suasive way instead of stressing it."
Mme. Chaminade played the following pro-
gram of her own compositions in three groups:

Etude Romantique Op. 132.

GUILD GIVES FIRST CONCERT
The International Composers' Guild recently
gave its first concert at the Klaw Theatre,
New York. The concert was well attended and
received lengthy reviews from practically all of
the New York papers. The Guild has for its
purpose the presentation of compositions of
composers who have meritorious works but
who find little response from publishers to their
offerings, most of the compositions having little
or no appeal to music lovers in the publication
form.
The A. J. Stasny Music Co. is the publisher
of a new waltz entitled "Panama Twilight."
