thoroughness and painstaking care
that have always been characteristic
of Bacon pianos came into being.

1802 to two brothers, William and
Michael PafF, who were succeeded
in 1815 by William DuBois. In 1830
DuBois became associated with
George Bacon and founded the firm
of DuBois and Bacon. And so it was
that in 1 836 at number 126 Broad-
way, the first piano bearing the
Bacon name came into existence.

developed through 133 years into
the present Bacon Piano Company.
The enterpriseofthis sturdy, shrewd
pioneer piano dealer is well displayed
in the reproduction of an advertise-
ment that appeared in an early New
York newspaper, dated Saturday,
January 10th, 1789. This was prob-
ably the first piano advertisement
to appear in the United States.
From this early day to the present
time a rigid adherence to the prin-
ciples formulated by George Bacon
has been successfully carried out by
two succeeding generations of the
Bacon family. The Francis Bacon
Pianos of today are a reflection or
the quality of workmanship that
for over 86 years has appealed to a
discriminating demand.
In those early days of the 19th cen-
tury, piano-building was thebusiness
of a few carefully-trained artisans,
