TWO ORCHESTRAS OFF FOR LONDON
Organizations Under Direction of Paul Specht
Sail to Play in London Hotels
Two orchestras operating under the direction
of Paul Specht, the well-known orchestra leader,
sailed on Saturday last for England, where they
are to play at London hotels. The two musical
combinations are known as "The Criterions" and
"The 'Frisco Syncopators."
It is understood that several orchestra offices
were negotiating for the contract in question,
which, in addition to the two orchestras named,
calls for sixty additional men within the next
few months who are to play in various other
large English centers.
Paul Specht himself will remain in New York
with his orchestra at the Astor Hotel Roof, but
he has assured his English clients that he will,
in the near future, send his orchestra to
England.
What are termed "The Regular Fellows" of
the sheet music and mechanical reproduction
fields held an outing at McKenna Lodge, Silver
Lake Country Club, on Thursday of last week.
One of the features of the occasion was a seven-
inning ball game, the teams being captained by
Ed Bloedon and Cliff Hess, the Bloedon aggre-
gation winning the event by a score of ten to
seven.
It is understood that a real game of galloping
dominos, in which hundreds of dollars changed
hands, was one of the conspicuous events of
the day.
Several prizes were given to contestants in
several features of the program. Among these
was a three-legged race won by Vitali and Del-
hoff. Sam Perry won the fat man's race and
the hundred-yard dash found Mike Kosman with
winning colors.
The affair was well attended and was one
of the most enjoyable and successful ever given
by the publishers. Among those who attended
were: William Murray, Billy Jones, Ernest
Hare, Arthur Bergh, E. B. Marks, Edward
Christie, Oscar Delhoff, Mike Kosman, Sam
Perry, Lou Schlesinger, Pete Wendling, Max
Kortlander, Abe Ohlman, Mario Terry, John
Vitali, Ben Bornstein, Frank Wright, Justus
Rose, Edward Kirkaby, Jack Bliss, Mack Stark,
Sol Kalp, Joe Goodwin, Emerson Yorke, Edgar
Leslie, Elliott Shapiro, Eddie Adam, Joe Davis,
Cliff Hess, Frank Goodman, Ed Spero, Erving
Mills, Jimmy McHugh, George Beynon, Dan
Winkler and others who proclaimed, without
mental reservation, that it was "some" outing.
NEW SWISS COPYRIGHT LAW
Musical Compositions, Films and Designs In-
cluded in New Protective Measure
A new copyright law has been submitted to
the Upper House of the Swiss Parliament for
consideration after having passed the National
Assembly on June 20 of this year. It provides
protection not only to written works, but also
to musical compositions, motion picture films,
architectural designs and drawings for applied
art subjects. The new measure extends the

copyright protection to thirty years after the
death of the author. Dramas and musical pro-
ductions are required to be played within ten
years after publication, provided a suitable
royalty is paid the author. Amateur societies
are exempt from this provision if the players
receive no compensation for the presentation
of the plays.
If the above law passes it automatically gives
the same protection to citizens of the United
States through a copyright treaty existing be-
tween the United States and Switzerland which
grants reciprocal protection upon compliance
with the laws of both countries.
