"POHACO" USED BY D. 0 . K. K.
"Dokey" Band, of Portland, Ore., Using New
M. L. H. Co. Number at Public Drills
PORTLAND, ORE., May 9.—The band of the
"Dokey" Temple, in this city, has been featur-
ing "Pohaco," published by the M. L. H. Music
Pub. Co., in a way that has helped materially
to popularize the number. The "Dokeys," as
the Dramatic Order, Knights of Khorassan are
familiarly called, have been touring the adja-
cent towns, giving exhibition drills, and the band
lias used "Pohaco" very effectively, first play-
ing it through, then singing it, after which all
hands have joined in the refrain with "kazoos,"
through which they hummed the song. Manager
Lewis, of the M. L,. H. Music Pub. Co., is en-
thusiastic over the reception "Pohaco" is being
given and also reports that "Ship o' Dreams"
is going well, both numbers being used by Elza
May Wyman, a concert artist, who was dis-
covered by Mr. Lewis and who is booked for a
series of recitals in the East during the coming
season.

SONG HITS IN PORTLAND, ORE.
PORTLAND, ORE., May 9.—Bertha Freiheit, man-
ager of the sheet music department of the Sie-
berling & Lucas store, says that the demand for
"Somebody Knows," which is published by
Stasny, has been very great since it was sung
by Blossom Seely at the Orpheum Theatre. Miss
Freiheit says that the demand for "Make Be-
lieve" and "Bright Eyes" is also very great.

May 9.—At a recent meeting of the
Chambre Syndicale des Chansonniers the ques-
tion of foreign music was discussed, but the
union was asked to be patient as a rumpus at
present may spoil negotiations now in hand
with certain foreign rights societies.
It appears one of the leading importers of
American music has given the Syndicat des
Compositeurs de Musique to understand there
will soon be a good market abroad for French
scores.
