HEN it is said by artist or artisan—by the pro-
fession or the trade—that the Steinway piano
has individuality, it does not mean alone that
the Steinway is different from other pianos, but that it
is so different as to be distinctive*—a thing apart.
There is no mistaking the Steinway tone and no du-
plicating it—except by Steinway workers, under Stein-
way supervision and according to Steinway standards.
