get started in the new building January 1."
The present factory, which is just a little
larger than the new building will be, is of wood
construction.
The Richardson Piano Case -Co. is one of
Leominster's leading industries and it has grown
in the last twenty years from a small shop to
its present dimensions through the efforts of
E. H. and L. L. Richardson, who took over the
business when the factory employed but a few
hands.
LEOMINSTER, MASS., August 4.—Ground has just
been broken for the big addition to the Richard-
son Piano Case Co. factory which will permit
this firm to double its output. The addition is
70 by 180 feet, four stories high and of brick
construction. When the plant is in running
order about 400 workers will be employed.
The contract for the building calls for its com-
pletion within three months, and it is one of
the largest single factories erected here in

HARDWOOD VALUES STIFFENING
Mistake to Believe That There Will Be a Price
Lowering at an Early Date
Those who have been looking forward to a
lowering of timber values in the process of in-
dustrial readjustment will evidently meet with
disappointment, for all the signs of the times
now point the other way, and values, especially
in the hardwood world, are stiffening. The re-
cent lumber congress brought to the front the
fact that our timber resources arc being reduced
to the point of concern for the future supply; it
brought something of a realization that there is
a time in front of us, and not so far distant,
cither, when the farm wood lot and the Gov-
ernment holdings will be the main timber re-
serves of the country. It is a condition and a
realization which makes for the spirit of con-
servation, but there is small hope in the
situation for those looking for lower prices.
