FIRST CHRISTMAS A MERRY ONE
L. Wolfe Gilbert and Anatol Friedland, the
Well-Known Song Writers, Win Quick Suc-
cess as Publishers of Their Own Composi-
tions—Some Promising Numbers
The spirit of Christmas reigns in millions of
places right at this time, but nowhere is it more
sincerely in evidence than at the offices of Gil-
bert & Friedland, Inc., New York's youngest
L. Wolfe Gilbert—Anatol Friedland
music publishing house. Added to the natural
geniality of the season is the feeling of grati-
fication possessed by the members of the new
firm over the success that is already theirs.
h. Wolfe Gilbert and Anatol Friedland, al-
though both young men (young in ideas and
thought as well as in years), have been among
the most noted of America's popular composers
for some years. It has been their privilege to
write the songs that went into thousands upon
thousands of homes. Now, it is their privilege
not only to write them, but to publish them as
well. And it would seem that their first pub-
lication, "Are You From Heaven?" is likely to
prove the most successful and the best loved
of all of their many appealing ballads.
While Gilbert and Friedland have not con-

lined themselves to this style of song, some of
their greatest successes of the past have been
ballads, such as "My Little Dream Girl," ''Shades
of Night," "My Little Persian Rose," "My
Sweet Adair" and innumerable others. Yet the
popular decision appears to crown "Are You
From Heaven?" king of all Gilbert and Fried-
land ballads. Many of the finest vocalists on
the American stage are daily acquainting more
people with its beauty, and that the public has
"taken to it" is proved conclusively by the G.
& F. order-basket.
Another contributing factor to the happiness
of the Gilbert and Friedland holiday season is
their second publication, "It's a Hundred to One
You're From Dixie," the work of L. Wolfe
Gilbert and Carey Morgan.
It, too, is selling
wonderfully well. Although it's a "Dixie song,"
sure enough, the words and music are both un-
usual and original, and there's a certain South-
ern charm that makes it appeal strongly.
The third number in their catalog is "Chimes
of Normandy," by Al Bryan and Jack Wells,
the gifted writers of "Joan of Arc" and many
more hits.
This song, too, shows up most
pleasingly in the sales books.
With all these reasons for present satisfaction,
and with the bright prospects the firm has for
the future, it is not to be wondered at that L.
Wolfe Gilbert and Anatol Friedland and all of
their associates are convinced that they never
had a happier Christmas. The most gratifying
tiling in the world, it seems, is the success that
comes from energetic effort, and Gilbert and
Friedland are now enjoying theirs.
TWO NEW STASNY CO. NUMBERS
"An Autumn Day" and "Crow Hollow" Just
Added to That Company's Catalog
The A. J. Stasny Music Co. have just issued
two new numbers which have been added to
their high-class department. "An Autumn Day"
is the title of a new song which has been pub-
lished, from the pen of Edmund Braham, and
is according to all reports one of the most meri-
torious numbers issued in some time. The
publishers have given the number a title page
