BANJO=UKULELES
C. Bruno & Son, Inc., Issuing Descriptive Cir-
cular on Hanalei Brand of Instruments
C. Kruno & Son, Inc., New York, whole-
salers and importers of musical merchandise,
are sending their dealers an attractive circular
featuring a line of banjo-ukuleles which is
meeting with great success in all parts of the
country. The circular calls attention to the
qualities of the Hanalei brand of banjo-ukuleles,
which is a closed-back style with a tone am-
plifier.
Three of the most popular models in the
Hanalei brand are numbers 28, 30 and 32. The
last mentioned is described as follows in the
new circular: "Seven-inch rim formed of three
sections cross-banded, the center and wider sec-
tion being of Hawaiian Koa, the upper and lower
sections of hard maple. The rounded top edge
of the rim is also of Hawaiian Koa and the oval
tone amplifier at the back is the finest figured
Hawaiian Koa, handsomely polished and hand
rubbed. The neck is maple with finely figured
Koa fingerboard and Koa veneer on the front
of the head and on the heel. The entire front
of the instrument is bound with a very hand-
some and effective rope pattern inlay of alter-
nate light and dark woods, and a double row
of the same inlay extends up through the center

always been more or less a source of trial to
the violinist. The beginner often is troubled
with the fact that his strings break too often,

USING LYON & HEALY HARPS
Students of Carlos Salzedos Have Received
Much Praise for Their Work With These In-
struments—Photographed at Ditson Store
A bevy of fair harpists gathered at the head-
quarters of C. H. Ditson & Co., 8 East Thirty-
fourth street, on Saturday to pose for a group
picture. These seven young ladies were se-
lected from among the pupils of Carlos Salze-
dos, the eminent harpist, and they, together with
Mr. Salzedos, have played at many notable af-
fairs, where their playing has elicited much
favorable* comment in the musical world. They
are all the proud possessors of Lyon & Healy
harps in the latest designs and models.
Carlos Salzedos studied at the Conservatoire
de Paris, and at the age of sixteen, while there,
was awarded two first awards, one for the piano
and one for the harp.
Mr. Salzedos came to this country as the first
harpist of the Metropolitan Opera Co. orches-
tra. When he was in this country but a few
years he purchased a $2,000 Lyon & Healy harp
and has remained a Lyon & Healy enthusiast
ever since. Since his resignation from the
Metropolitan orchestra, Mr. Salzedos has de-
voted himself to composition and solo work and
the teaching of the harp.
