Gentlemen*. -
Wa have thoroughly inspected and tested your fine Mastertouch
aotion, of which we have heard much praise, and we wish to compliment
you on the ingenuity from which it was evolved.
Aside from the fine workmanship, you have overcome two of the
most troublesome features of actions of the Upright type, the bridle
and the backstop.
The bridle has long been a source of trouble, many of the makers
pay no attention to the proper length, getting them uneven and making
fine regulation impossible. They also cause trouble from the tips
rotting or getting hard, mice eating them off or the wires getting rusty
where the leather comes in contact with them, making it impossible to
separate them when necessary.
The backstop has always been a problem, producing different
effects at different seasons of the year, at one time causing the hammer
to block or stick at the string, at another allowing the hammer to re-
bound or blubber. Few tuners are good regulators and this backstop
regulation is very important if quality of touch is desired.
We wish to compliment you on the simplicity and mechanical manner
in which you have overcome these obstacles, as this is the greatest im-
provement we have seen in actions of the Upright type in more than
twenty-five years.
We manufacture player actions, and our action has great repe-
tition. We tested your action for speed and found that it made a perfect
stroke no. matter at what point the key was struck, also that it was
impossible to make the hammer block. We also tested the action with the
front rail punching removed and found that it would not block even
without the punching being in place.
Another feature of your action whioh is of special importance is
that in doing away with the bridle wire and backstop you save 1 1/2
inches in the space the other actions take up in the piano, allowing
more room for the player action; this is indeed a great advantage to
player action makers.
We believe you will have a great sale on this action and our
tuners and regulators are all anxious to have it in our pianos. It
certainly caivnot be surpassed for repetition as it is marvelous.
You deserve great success.
Very truly yours,
C. M. Sigler,
