right bill to be freshly introduced in the coming
session of Congress. While the publishing group
were all Englishmen, still they are interested in
American copyright legislation, and should they
happen to meet the versatile, resourceful and
able gentleman of talking machine fame an argu-
ment might be framed up in which all hands
could participate and thresh out the differences
between them.
A three months' engagement has been made by
Thomas J. Quigley, manager of Francis, Day &
Hunter's professional department, to sing at At-
lantic City, N. J. During his sojourn he will
continue to look out for the firm's interests just
the same, and will occasionally have a look in
at the stand of the United Music Stores Co. on
the boardwalk that opens June 15.
William H. Penn, the well-known song writer,
for many years manager for Sol Bloom, is now
manager-in-chief of the Gus Edwards Music Pub-
lishing Co., in this city.

usual sense of the word, for he has been promi-
nent as a composer and conductor in European
musical centers for several years. Recently his

tract with Joseph W. Stern & Co., and among the
first of his compositions that will be exploited
are the following: "Luna Waltz," "The Glow-
Worm Idyl," "Spring Waltz," "Berlin Echoes,"
march; "Castles in the Air," "Siamese Patrol,"
characteristic; "Police Parade," march; "Unre-
quited Love/' waltz. Mr. Lincke will be in New
York again in September.

The new play in which she is to appear next
season is by an American author and is almost
completed.
The music publishing department of Hinds,
Eldredge & Noble, 31 West 15th street, New York,
under the management of Albert E. Wier, has
been expanding steadily, and recently additional
office room was required. They are doing a
splendid business and this week they publish
several new folios for orchestra and band. Their
republication of classic non-copyrights is grow-
ing into a formidable list, the printing, paper
and other details being carefully looked after.
Leo Feist, who returned from Europe last
week, states he has signed Scotta, writer of "La
Tonquinoise," exploited in this country by Joseph
W. Stern & Co.
