"THE WITMARK CORNER
HOW ENGLISH MUSIC PUBLISHERS SUFFER.
One of the absurdities of the present law of
copyright was disclosed in a case heard on
the 5th inst. at the Greenwich Police Court,
says our London (Eng.) namesake, Music
Trades Review. Nearly 5,000 pieces of pirated
music were seized in a house, and the capture
also included twenty plates, from which some
of this music had evidently been printed. It
was then found that although the act allowed
the destruction of the music, it did not pro-
vide for the destruction of the plates, and ac-
cordingly there was nothing to prevent other
copies being printed. The nonsensical state
of the law, caused, of course, by patchwork
legislation, could hardly be better exemplified.
A complete copyright bill has been before
Parliament for several years, and has been
fully inquired into by Parliamentary commit-
tees, but until Government take it up, even
this almost entirely non-contentious measure
stands little or no chance of being considered.
The Wulschner-Stewart Co., of Indianapo-
lis, Ind., have opened a branch store in
Anderson, Ind., which will be under the man-
agement of Mr. McMillan,

Certainly a beautiful piano piece. Will be a good standard seller.

FRANCO-AMERICAN DANCE "
MR. LORAINE has written many instrumental novelties. His previous efforts, however, are superseded
by " something different." It is the musical feature in "Peggy from Paris." While the orchestra
plays it, everybody hums.

HEIDELBERG" P R I N C E OF PILSEN MARCH
BY CUSTAV LUDERS
Nearly everyone has seen the " Prince of Pilsen " and heard the double quartette sing " Heidelberg."
The beautiful melody of this song has been woven into a march that is destined to be long-lived.
