Amusement Trades
Exhibition 1960

Some months ago, I was fortunate to come across an official catalogue for the sixteenth
annual Amusement Trades Exhibition, held at the New Royal Horticultural Hall,
Westminster, London SWl from the 2 nd to 4 th February 1960. Looking through this
catalogue gave me a rare insight about this event, and hopefully I can also relay a similar
feeling to you readers.
Firstly, I notice a couple of trade papers are mentioned: Worlds Fair, priced at 6d
weekly, and Automatic World, priced at 2/- monthly. The advertisement states: 'Both
will give you all the up to the minute news and views on everything covered by the
ATE. No other publications cover the entire field' . Next is a two-page spread from
Crompton and Bates Ltd, 166 - 172 High Street, Ramsgate, Kent. The left-hand page
shows their latest novelty - Bear Shooting Machine, with ' four-way animation' , whilst
