Ba.ck 45 yea.rs a.go, the la.te Da.ve Gottlieb went all out for Howard Peo's "Whirlwind" and
turned it into a. ga.me he called, "Miniature Baseball". Instead of the usual flip handle
he ma.de this in the shape of a baseball ba.t. Removing the name "Whirlwind" from the top
of the front a.luminum casting, he replaced this with a baseball diamond, players, part of
a. grandstand a.nd small pointers the players could turn to indicate "runs scored" a.s well
as "innings" played. This is only one example of the hundreds of baseball counter games.
The fact baseball was a great theme for counter games is mentioned in the editorial on
page 2 of this issue.

Future scanning projects are planned by the International Arcade Museum Library (IAML).
