Matic 100's on some of his top spots . . . .
The resort trade hasn't yet made itself felt
in Long Beach locations, but coinmen are
hopeful that July, August and September
will push the gross barometer upward. Lo-
cations near apartment houses and those
catering to a big foot traffic are holding
well, but neighborhood spots have slumped.
Despite the apparent quietness which has
engulfed the Row the past month, the Pau l
A. Laymon establishment has been busy
as a bee hive with operators in from all
over the southland. Among them we noted
Ed Lyons, Charles Cahoone and H omer
Gillespie, Long Beach; R oy Jones, Inyo-
kern; Pop Burris, Montebello; Ben
Korte, Glendale; E. E. Simmons, Paso
Robles; AI Anderson, Shafter; Perry
Irwin, Ventura; Clyde Truss, Oceanside;
Glen McCarter, Beaumont; Jack Spen-
cer, Big Bear; Burt Polin, San Luis
Obispo; Bill McGowan, Reedley; Geor ge
Licali, Ontario; Herb Hanrio n, Han·
ford; S. L. Griffin, Pomona; R. T. Fra-
zier and E . E . Peterson, San Diego;
William Black and Alex Koleopolus,
Bakersfield; Clyde Denlinger, Balboa; J.
L. Rowe, Tucson, and Paul Carman,
Oceanside. One of the machines command·
ing major attention at Laymon's has been
Shuflpins, a game which combines shuffie·
board and bowling and operates on a dime
ror ten frames. Four players can play at
one time and location tests have been ex-
ceptionally gratifying.

Trojan Sales Program
Geared to Operators
LOS ANGELES-Trojan Sales Co.,
manufacturer of the armored Trojan maple
top shuffieboard, is making a radical de·
parture in merchandising which will bene·
fit the operator.
Bob Bard, sales manager of the com·
pany, stated: "Unlike other board manu-
facturers whose main purpose is to install
them in bars and taverns and then forget
them, our program is geared to the op-
erator because we feel it is a ·coin·operated
device and if it is serviced as such and
placed on a route basis, it will be a steady
money·maker oyer a long period of time."
In line with this policy, Trojan is offer-
ing a package deal, including the shuffie·
board, scoring unit, auxiliary kit, and in-
structions.
One of the outstanding features of the
board is the fact that it has been en-
gincered by industrial designers and that
the three-inch laminated Eastern hard
maple field is reinforced with a network
of steel struts which prevents warping.
Trojan Sales is backing this up with a
one·year written guarantee.
A report by the engineering firm reveals
that the board will hold trne to allowable
deflection tolerances of five thousandths of
an inch-which is the thickness of a piece
of paper.

dition, AI a nd Chick Rob er ts offer a com-
plete line of used phonographs of all makes
and a modern showroom and shop. Firm is

Veteran automatic merchandiser T o ny
Parina, guiding light of Messrs. Parina
& Co., has returned to his San Francisco
headquarters after extensive travelling of
tbe Pacific Coast territory. Parina, who
exclusively distributes the DuGrenier man-
ual and electric cigarette machines, the
DuGrenier Candy Man, and the Adams
G·JI gum machine, reports fine acceptance
of his lines. "More and more operators are
availing themselves of the famous Parina
service," he said. "We have a complete
stock of parts for all DuGrenier models, as
well as all makes and models of used
candy and cigarette machines in our San
Francisco warehouse." One of the reasons
the Candy Man is being so well received
by the trade, Parina reports, is that tbe
machine displays 12 brands of candy, which
helps stimulate sales.
