It's in one spot after another as oper-
ators filter into the jobbing establishments
to keep up-to-date on when new equip-
ment may be expected. The "Red Hot
News" forecasts in THE REVIEW haven't
failed as. yet, and a lot of rumors are rife
in the jobbing establishments, plus a lot of
promises that will cause later embarrass-
ment. But the circulating continues and
some of the distributors are booking sub-
stantial orders for equipment, sight un-
seen, with cancellation privileges when
previews are held.
And speaking of unveiling of new pho-
nographs, it looks like a gala season
ahead. The Industry, insofar as local
constituents are concerned, intends to do
it up brown. No more bottle of beer
and hot dog sandwich stuff. It'll be first
class from now on out.
The town has been flooded with oper-
ators and there's no better place to get
an up-to-date list of visitors than Paul
Laymon's. Among those checking in, were:
Burt Polin, San Luis Obispo; N. E. Need-
ham, Yuma; Carl Collard and W. H.
Shorey, San Bernardino; Ray Smith, Bar-
stow; Edward Sullivan, Oceanside; Earl
Beatty, Temple City; Carl Fisher and
Lowell Ayers, Inglewood; L. M. Groth,
Shafter; Joe Grater, Oxnard; E. J. Baehr,
Earl Presher and Mr. and Mrs. Harry
Gordon, San Diego; Fred Allen and Alex
Koleopolus, Bakersfield; M. C. Stewart,
Big Bear; W. K. Volner, EI Centro; O.
M. Rabitaille, Phoenix; Johnny Ketcher-
sid, Homer Gillespie, George Landier and
John Glober, Long Beach; L. Dunn, Mon-
terey Park; A. R. Kelley, Pismo; Mr. and
Mrs. Jimmy Hume, Palm Springs; Glenn
McCarter, Calimesa; Charles A. Bonney,
Flagstaff; and dozens of others.
Charlie Robinson left on the 17th for
a sales trip that will take him into half a
dozen states.
Bud Parr, now back to his own good-
natured, genial self and showing up daily
at General Music, is driving a brand new
1942 Buick sedan.
W. H. Leuenhagen is showing a nifty
cigar and cigarette lighter being manu-
factured by a friend of his. It's a class
item and is beautifully machine finished
in non-chip and non-scratch able material
resembling bakelite. Bill is promoting the
product for use on sales boards.
A. M. Keene, the sage of Taft and op-
erating entrepreneur extraordinary, is back
from a visit to Chicago and a look see
behind the scenes in some of the factories.
Dee's Service Shop is currently blos-
soming out with additional space made
possible by the addition of a second floor
to the present quarters. Dee is amplifying
his service and operators will welcome
the new space and the improved service
it will make possible.
What local operator makes more money
out of selling his music route than operat·
ing it himself? So far he's sold and re-
sold the same route 7 times!
Gene Crowley is back in the service
department at Leuenhagen's after three
years in the navy. Gene was in Tokyo
Harbor following V-J Day when orders
came through for his ship to head state-
side. Arriving in San Pedro he was sprung
from service in 72 hours and after a
week's rest reported for work.
Mr. and Mrs. Paul Laymon entertained
a group of friends night-clubbing in ob-
servance of the 8th wedding anniversary
of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Wilkes.
Ben Korenblum, local operator, is con-
fined to his bed with an illness.
Busiest spot on Pi co the past month
has been the new Nels Nelson spot where
carpenters have been busy day and night
transforming the place into a topnotch ser-
vice and sales center for Nels' new enter-
prise. No sooner did he open the doors
for service than the shop was loaded with
work.
