nee red a new type of coin·operated amuse-
ment tax that has met with an enthusiast ic
rece ption from local music operators.
On Octob er 1st music opera tors sta rted
applying for lice nse under th e new ordi-
na nce whi ch regulates the number of pho -
nogra phs on the ratio of one phonograph
to each 265 people in th e city.
Behind th e new licensing technique is
a lon g story of licensin g di scussions, trial
and error meth ods, and finally the success-
fu l method of li censin g on the basis of
population.

Th e U. S. Stoneware Co., Akron , 0 _, has
developed an adhesive to take the place
of riveting and spot welding.
Corning Glass Works is producin g one
to solder glass to metal, and glass to glass.
Precision blasting in miniature has de-
veloped so far in our war fa ctories that the
new ex plosive rivets which seal themselves
on th e bli nd side of a piece of work seem
desti ned for wide adaptation by ind ustry.
