NEW YORK-Second national drive for
Records for Our F ighting Men gets under
way on July 3rd with the American Legion
and its Auxiliary again doing the house-to-
house canvassing. Distribution of the new
records to the men in the service is again
to be supervised by the Joint Army and
Navy Committee on Welfare and Recre-
ation.
Returni ng recently from a 35,000·mile
tour of the fighting fronts, General Henry
H . Arnold, chief of the Army Air Force,
reported that the only request made by our
figh ting men was for "some new phono-
gra ph records."
Making records available to men in com·
bat zones as well as in distant outposts off
the beaten track of entertainers became the
concern of a group of leading recording,
screen, and radio artists who co-ordinated
their efforts through the non-profit organ·
ization Records For Our Fighting Men, Inc.
Last sqmmer this organization enlisted the
aid of the American Legion and other
patriotic groups to collect old, used, and un·
wanted scrap records which were then sold
to the record manufacturers. The funds
thus obtained were used to purchase new
records. To date, over 300,000 new records
have been distributed to the fighting forces,
, here and abroad.
New Disc Coming
NEW YORK-The Savoy Record Co. of
Newark, N. J., has announced a new King
Solomon label record which they will
shortly introduce.
The King Solomon label will be used ex-
clusively on Negro spiritual waxings and
first is due for an appearance in two
weeks.
