Art Lyns has been added to the service

ment manager at McCall Novelty, visited
the boys while home on furlough from the
Air Force. He teaches in an Army Air
Force Radio School.
Bob Faucet, renowned skater, who ex·
hibited at Sefferno's in Cincinnati before
entering the Army is now stationed at a
nearby army camp. Whenever he is on
leave he hikes over to the Ideal Roller Rink
for a little recreation and relaxation. J 0
Riley spends every afternoon she can spare
at the Ideal Roller Rink keeping in trim
for a scheduled tour with the Skating
Vanities. The names of over sixty-five pat-
rons of the Ideal Roller Rink appear on
the honor scroll displayed there. The names
include WAVES, WAACS, Marines, Army
and Navy men.
Jack Mehl of the Olive Novelty Co. be-
came the father of a nine and a half pound
baby boy in March. Phyllis Tzinberg who
was the stenographer at Olive Novelty Co.,
is now with the WAAC's at Des Moines,
Iowa. Jim McCoy is the new assistant man-
ager at McCall Novelty.
Lieutenant William Sutton Singer, a St.
Louis bombardier on duty somewhere in
New Guinea, was mentioned in a dispatch
from the battle area as a member of the
crew of a Liberator B-24 that sank one
4000-ton Jap ship and scored three direct
hits on another 8000-ton ship in a recent
raid on Rabaul, enemy naval base. Lieut.
Singer is the brother of Sam Singer of the
Royal Novelty Co. and is well-known among
members of the industry here. His plane
was one of a large force of B·24's and a
small group of Flying Fortresses that car-
ried out the attack whiph was described
as being successful "beyond dreams." In a
letter his mother received he described the
heat in New Guinea as being so intense
"you could fry an egg on your head if
you had an egg." He served in the Medical
Corps at Scotte Field bdore transferring
to tbe air forces a year ago_

ing the month of March is the increased
employment of women for service work.
Canteen, a company that has a large string
of drink and confection vendors spotted in
defense plants in this area, have turned to
women in a big way in order to keep the
routes properly serviced. Canteen, after
giving the two· woman teams thorough
training under the direction of a veteran
routeman, have turned certain routes over
to them. An older woman acts as chauffeur
and contact-JIlan and a Sounger one acts
as helper. Figures are not available as to
just how many women are working on
Canteen's routes but it is known that there
are many. A male route·boss keeps in close
touch with route operations and remedies
as much as possible the peculiar difficul-
ties that arise due to the switch from male
to female route servicing. For instance,
there are no crews of women servicing the
