Columbia Signs Sinatra
NEW YORK-Columbia Recording Corp.

currently soaring to zen ith.
Sinatra is to start work, via his exclu·

powers behind mechanized musi{; and the
Musicians' Union adjust their difficulties.
Indications are, that will be in the near
future.

Phono Used For Safe
HOUSTON, Tex.~The use of an auto·
matic phonograph as a safe to store money,
daily reports of 23 writers of the China
Gold policy ring, and a large numbe~ of ap·
pearance bonds was uncovered by the local
police in a raid upon a negro recreation
hall here on March 26th.
T he phonograph was registered in the
name of a local prominent attorney whose
signature also appeared on the incompleted
appearance bonds. Police hauled the phono
to headquarters, emptied it of its contents,
and prepared to turn the evidence over to
the grand jury.

times as much as the Greek professor.
Isn' t that quite a discrepancy?"
Student : "I dunno. Did you ever hear
40,000 people cheering a Greek recita·
tion?"
