ST. LOUIS-Virgil Bernsen is back in
town on a ten·day furlough from Fort Sill.
But it's Lieutenant Bernsen now, he hav·
ing received a comm ission as Second Lieu-
tenant after successfully completing the offi-
cers training course. The Davies Novelty
Co., along with the whole industry, is proud
of him.
John Kling, who for the past four months
has acted as Hoor manager at the Davies
Arcade on Delmar Avenue, is back working
the routes for the firm . "My dogs .gave out
on me," John laments.
The Davies Novelty bowling team, cap-
tained by Harry Davies and including John
Parson, Ora Knop, 1. Hynes and Bill Smith,
is in good spirits after winning on two
straight nights. It had lost its previous eight
games simply because the members neg-
lected to take their vitamin tablets regu-
larly, joked Harry.
Jack Osborne, of the McCall Novelty Co.,
has been sent to Randolph Field, Texas, as
an instructor in radio. A baby boy was
born to the Osbornes recently.
Andy McCall, along with practically
everyone else in the business, was seen at
the recent ball games between the Cards
and the Yanks.
Mildred Hinkamp, personable secretary
with McCall Novelty, is leaving th e firm to
get into defense work.
Staff Sergeant Ralph P earlstein, brother
of Sophie Pearlstein of McCall Novelty,
postcards from Camp Funston, Kansas, to
friends in the coin machine industry here
regularly.
Carl Trippe, of Ideal Novelty, recently
announced his opening of three new Ar-
cades at strategic traffic points of the city.
One is in the 2000 block of 39th St., an-
other in the 4000 block of West Florissant,
and the third is on Broadway and Chip -
pewa.
Ralph Wilson of Farmington, Mo., and Al
Richardson of Herrin, Ill., were included in
the long list of out-of-town operators to visit
St. Louis in late September.
Leo Wichlan, form er Hoorman at Ideal,
is presently engaged in defense work at a
St. Louis plant.
Bill F armer, of Ideal, has enlisted in th e
Navy and is ready to leave for boat camp
any day now. His duty of route sup ervisor
will be taken .over by Lou Riebling, who
formerly managed the Ideal Roller Rink.
Bert Canoll has assumed the job of man a-
ger of the Ideal Roller Rink.
.
Al Haneklau, of the Olive Novelty Co.,
has enlisted in the Navy and is awaiting
assignment.
Lee Turner reports he is having success
with his Panoram routes and only hopes
that it continues as successfully in the fu-
ture as it has in the past.
Nate Wolff postcards regularly to coin
friends here from Honolulu . . . . His last
letter expressed the hope that he would like
to see the Cardinals play for the champion -
ship.

NEW YORK-One of the busiest men in
Gotham th e past month has been George
Glassgold, who has been planing back and
forth to Washington, D.
in behalf of th e
industry's interest in th e new Tax Revenue
bill. Attorney Glassgold has submitted an
amendment which is fair to the industry
and whi ch it is hoped will be incorporated
in the measure.
Jack Mitnick reports Panorams moving
rapidly at the George Ponser office. Sey-
mour Piltch, formerly with Ponser, is now
managing an Arcade i'n Pennsylvania.
The first brea th of cold weather started
so me of the lads thinking about Florida.
This year they'll find things a bit chan ged
and the fan cy hotels they used to stop at

There was plenty of exci temen t around
Olive Novelty on Saturday morning, Sep-
tember 26, wh en the building right next
door burned down, killing two people.
Quick work by city fire-fighters prevented
the spreading of the fire.
Phyllis Tzinberg, secretary at Olive Nov-
elty, passed all the tests for the WAA C's
and was told to come back in F ebruary, at
which time th e age requirements will be
satisfied.
