Tom Murray Retires
FORT WORTH, Texas-Tom Murray
has retired from the coin machine publish·
ing field and will devote all of his time to
a publication of his own which covers ~.
other industry.
This announcement came out of Fort
Worth this month when Murray let it be
known that the Venetian Blind News, a
publication which he started a few years
back, would require all of his attention in
the future.
Murray is one of the old timers in the
industry. He launched the Automatic World
as the second independent coin machine
paper in the industry back in 1930,-;;hd
lays claim to having coined the word "Op"
as expressive of the operators connected·
with the industry.

FOR
OCTOBER
1942
LOS ANGELES.-Solly Solomon, man·
ager of Western Distributors, Seattle, paid
Los Angeles a visit the first part of October
and stopped in at the REVIEW offices to
talk over the good old days when he was
located locally.
Solly flew from Seattle to San Fran·
cisco where he spent a day or two with
Lou Wolcher befo~e hurrying on to Los
Angeles to meet his son, Walter, who is in
the Coast Guard and arranged to be here
to greet his father. Walter has completed
three years in the service and is now in his
second term.
During the summer Solly entertained his
father, Edward E. Solomon" on the first
vacation he had had in fifty years. Now 82,
he boasts of 62 years practicing law in the
state of Texas.

Laymon Has United Games
LOS ANGELES. - The operators have
made Paul A. Laymon's establishment a
"must" Tor the past ten days to examine the
refurbished United Manufacturing Coo's
Midway and Sun Valley on display. Com·
ments have been most complimentary and
the consensus of opinion seems to be that
United is doing an A·l job in rebuilding
and redesigning marble tables.
Interest locally has been especially keen
for Harry Williams, a former West Coast
manufacturer, is half owner of United and
well known to coinmen in these parts.
United's first two games are exceptionally
well done and only an expert could tell
them from spanking new games.
