Collins-Washburn Form
Manufacturing Set-up
LOS ANGELES - Eddie Collins and
Charles Washburn, two names well known
in Coin Machine Circles in the West,
have joined in partnership to manufacture
two new devices for operators. Name of
the partnership will be Collins and Wash-
burn and the pair have already t aken a
lease on a large factory building and have
a sizeable crew at work on their first two
products. Collins will be in charge of the
manufacturing and Washburn will head
up sales and distribution.
First product to be announced is the
new Penni-Tone, a complete wall and bar
box containing a small speaker which
plays the music for the individual patron.
A series of these boxes may be hooked up
to any old out-dated phonograph which is
installed in the back room of th e estab-
lishment. Because of the individuality of
the delivery it is not uncommon for sev-
eral pennies to be inserted for the play-
ing of a single selection.
Second product is a 14-foot regulation
bowling machine with automatic pin set-
ting device. First showi ng of this machine
is now being made in the showrooms of
the Washburn Company at 1511 West
Pico in Los Angeles.

Biltmore Hotel to House Exhibits
of More Than 50 Manufacturers
LOS ANGELES-November 18, 19 and 20th have been selected as the
dates for the 1940 Western States Coin Machine Convention to be held this
winter at the Biltmore Hotel in downtown Los Angeles.
The th11ee days will be given over to a magnificent display of the new offer-
ings of the Coin Machine Industry in the luxurious Galeria Room of the Bilt-
more. More than fifty manufacturers are expected to participate in this, the
first deluxe presentation on the West Coast in the past four years.
Never in the history of this great industry has there been as much manufac-
turing activity in the West as at the present time. In Los Angeles County
alone there are nearly half a hundred manufacturers, large and small, turning
out various types of coin-operated amusement, vending and service machines
for specialized operations. A good share of these manufacturers will display

which ar,e being manufactured exclusive'ly in the West at the present time.
Formal announcements, contracts, floor plans and booth photos will be
mailed to manufacturers throughout the country before the end of August.
Several civic organizations have been lined up in Los Angeles to aid in the
promotion of the November Show and a list of these organizations and the
