The American Chewing Products
Corp., Newark, N. J., have made ar
rangements to supply distributors and
operators with individually wrapped,
labeled and sealed sticks of chewing
gum for the new stick gum jack pot
machines. This company is known
for the excellent quality of its prod
ucts and, while the price they offer to
operators and distributors is remark-
This gum is available also in five-
stick packages for use with table and
pin games, in order to meet legal re
quirements.

A visit to the newly rebuilt modern
daylight plant of the Daval Manu
facturing Company, 200 S. Peoria St.,
Chicago, discloses the fact that at
this time of the year they are work
ing double shifts including Saturdays
and some Sundays, in order to supply
the unprecedented demand for their
Daval gum venders.
'
When questioned as to the reason
for such activity, Mr. Dave Bein, the
manager, explained that for the last
two months the Davals are built with
almost as much precision as is used
in the manufacture of high grade
watches. It cost only a dollar or so
more to build a machine that will
stand usage for five years, which is
the guarantee the Daval gum vender
carries.
The Daval Manufacturing Com
pany will soon place on the market
another type vender, which will be
announced shortly.

ably low, they claim the quality of
the chewing gum is equal to the very
finest nationally advertised brands.
This gum is packed 100 single sticks
to a box and is available in a choice
of peppermint, spearmint, fruit or
rootbeer flavors. There is also a choice
of four different brands and labels.
The labels run from two and three
colors to a very elaborate label with
eight colors.

A Blackpool journal tells an inter
esting story concerning a once famous
book-seller, Richard Carlile. “Ger
man publishers,” say the British Auto
matic World, “who have installed slot
machines at the principal German
railway stations for the supply of
novels, are simply adopting a device
invented more than a hundred years.
ago by Carlile. Because his shop as
sistants were constantly being arrest
ed for selling forbidden books (mostly
volumes that would now be considered
perfectly harmless), he set his wits
to work and constructed an automatic
machine whereby the buyers were
prevented from identifying the sell
ers.
The names of the books were in
scribed on a large dial, and the pur
chaser, having turned a pointer to the
one he wanted, deposited his money
in a slot, and the volume dropped
out.”
