NEW YORK— Featuring 22
Photomatics at the World’s Fair,
International Mutoscope Reel
Company, Inc., Long Island
City, are not only proud of the
phenomenal play these machines
are getting daily but also of the
tremendous publicity which has
appeared in the press all over
the nation.
Photomatics are getting great
action in the Aviation Building
where interest is at high pitch
these days due to the displays of
the new Army and Navy bomb
ers, scout and pursuit planes, as
well as the bombs which these
ships are carrying. The public
flock here to see this unique dis
play so currently interesting,
and before leaving the building,
walk out with a souvenir photo
of themselves completely framed
by Photomatic machines.
Automatic built-in stores on
the grounds feature two Photo
matics each. These are attrac
tion getters. In fact, when other
exhibits are closed at about
10:00 P.M. these are the only
stores still open and getting a
play until 2:00 A. M.
Many psychological factors
have been discovered by Muto
scope regarding the publics
whim about taking pictures.
During the ’39 Fair the firm em
ployed salesmen to ballyhoo the
machine for the public. They
have since learned that the pub
lic, unless professional models
or actors, are embarrassed tak
ing pictures with a crowd gazing
at them.
“ Furthermore” , reports Bill
Rabkin, genial and popular
president of International Muto
scope Reel Co., Inc., “ for some
reason or other the public like
to play with gadgets. They like
to walk over to machines, study
the directions, and gradually,
gingerly, they step into the
Photomatic and try taking their
first picture automatically. We

have discovered that they us
ually won’t care for the first or
second. But, by that time they
feel themselves experts and are
taking pictures just as fast as
they can pull dimes out of their
pockets. And, having learned
all the ways and means, they
urge their friends in, and pretty
soon the machine is blocked by
an enthusiastic group of picture
takers.
The Photomatics are but one
section of the huge operation
being conducted by International
Mutoscope at the World’s Fair.
Their two Penny Arcades are
the talk of all concessionaires.
The batteries of Sky Fighters,
Mutoscope’s Anti-Aircraft Ma
chine Guns, have won a tre
mendous following and are in
action every minute of the day.
The pin games, which were sold
to Mutoscope by The Vending
Machine Company of Fayette
ville, N. C. are doing trojan
work.
