San Diego Will Boost
The Tax On Vendors
An ordinance sent to the San Di­
ego city council recently by the city
attorney’s office places a license of
$6 a year on each machine operated
in the city for vending cigarets or
cigars.
This ordinance came before the
council two weeks ago, but was sent
back for revision, the attorney be­
ing instructed to insert a provision
eliminating the license on machineB
operated in any store where the pro­
prietor is paying a regular annual to­
bacco license fee of $ 12 .
The license fee on such machines
was formerly $1 a year, but the coun­
cil decided to raise it, for the pro­
tection of tobacco dealers. The own­
ers of the machines entered a vig­
orous protest, to no avail.
It is with evident pleasure and
best wishes that the AUTOMATIC
AGE notes that Mr. O. C. Ogden of
the Ogden Distributing Co., of Min­
neapolis, is back on his feet again
after two months of very serious ill­
ness. In a communication to the
AUTOMATIC
AGE, Mr. Ogden
heartily endorses the “ Coin Machine
Operators’ Association,” believing it
will be of immeasureable help to op­
erators in innumerable ways. If his
ever-increasing duties with his new
organization allow him time, we feel
sure that we shall see him at the
convention at Detroit in February.
