A fter a careful survey o f the
arcades in and about New Y ork City,
it was found that there are in the
city proper 11 penny arcades, and
about 25 arcades in cities right ad
joining New York. The owners o f
these arcades had no way o f getting
together— each man having to stand
his own ground.
A few more aggressive arcade men,
got together and an organization of
the arcade owners was form ed. This
organization holds meetings monthly
to decide on what is best fo r the bus
iness— and to get together on things
in general. A fter the last meeting
fo r the season, a big blow out was
had, at which a good time was had
by all.
The
A U T O M A T IC
A GE was
adopted as the official organ o f the
organization, o f which Mr. M. Schaf
fer o f the Radio Amusement Com
pany is president; Mr. A. Schlack,
Vice-President, and Mr. William Rab
kin o f the International Mutoscope
Reel Company, secretary. Mr. M.
Benedict is treasurer.
The first meeting fo r the new sea
son will be held shortly. The A U T O
M A TIC A GE will be kept posted on
the activities o f the organization.
It may also interest your readers
to know, that during his travels all
over the country, Mr. Rabkin, iound
a very sincere interest in coin oper
ated machines, and while there are
still a number o f fly-by-night ma
chines being used, the tendency seems
to be towards standardization o f a
few solid well built machines.
Operators, it seems are learning,
that it is not only the original cost
o f the machine which counts, but its
ability to stand up under hard wear,
and to make money with no trouble.
T he demand seems to be fo r stronger
and better machines.
One outstanding feature o f the

Mutoscope, and one o f its main rea-
sonss fo r being so popular is the fact
that it comes up to these standards.
There are still Mutoscopes being used
today with
apparent
satisfaction
which were built about 25 and 30
years ago.
Our suggestion to machine manu
facturers is that they sacrifice price
to quality, even though they may lose
some sales at first— because, they will
find, as we have from past experi
ence, that the only way to get the
repeat orders, is to build quality ma
chines.

has expired and that you have re
newed it fo r the year o f 1927 which,
I here enclose $1.00 and want to
thank you fo r notifying me as I
would not be without the A U T O
M A TIC AGE. I would rather miss a
meal than miss a copy o f the A U T O
M A TIC AGE. It is small but mighty
and all good things come small. I
here again thank you fo r notifying
me and want you to notify me as soon
as my subscription expires in 1927.

Lntest fashion in England is fo r
women to indicate their status or
mood Dy ear ornaments. Two ear
rings means a woman is married; one
in the right ear, that she is engaged.
Circles and ropes o f gems indicate
that she desires no new acquaint
ances, while ear ornaments in the
form o f bells denote that she is out
fo r a good time.
