Tooay, the kit business is an irrportant
part of our industry. The right kit
installed into a dedicated cabinet is the
backbone of this segrrent of the business.
A good quality/designed cabinet should
have a useful life of 5-10 years.
I've got a problem I'm sure many other
operators have. Conversion kits usually
require additional holes drilled into the
control panel. Buttons usually require a
hole 1-1/8" in diameter and a drill bit
that large is very expensive and dulls
easily on the rretal.
Look at our "ASTEROIDS" that are now
alrrost 10 years. Most of them are in
exc 7 llent shape tooay. The plywood Midway
cabinets are superb. Not all cabinets
retain their looks, however.
We've found a Greenley punch works but
since the metal is so thick that the punch
also dulls after 3 or 4 holes.
Any other suggestions for putting these
holes in the control panel?
About 8 rronths ago, I purchased several
Data East "Ca.1MANDOS". My "ASTEROIDS" are
in better shape! The reason for this is
the design of the cabinets.
Atari has had the floor recessed to
protect the sides of the cabinet. This is
v 7 ry effective in protecting the lower
sides of the cabinet from damage. Data
East front sides of the cabinet extends
rruch further out than all others. They are
easily damaged when we rrove these games.
The biggest blunder of all are their
~eg-levelers. They are held in place by an
inner/outer threaded stud. The stud has
about 4 threads going into a cheap wafer
board floor. Bob Lloyd from Data East
inforrred rre that the same people who made
Atari cabinets made theirs, also.
Cutting too much cost from the cabinet
shows. On all Data East cabinets such as
these, I recornrend installing a new
plywood floor under the original. Midway
makes the best leg leveler bracket.
Many other games have similar defects.
Most of our rroves with games are done in a
pick-~p with ~ibbed floors. If the leg
goes into a dip, the side may get ripped
off. Our industry needs to set a standard
for quality of the base of the game.
Needless to say, all manufacturers and
operators should cooperate for the
betterment of our industry.

Bally Sente Main Frame Cable Mod
units nanufactured prior to "this" cable
change must be rrodified for proper mME
THAT TUNE game operation. This includes:
Sac I, Sac IA, Sac IB (made prior to cable
rrodification), Sac Man and the cocktail
main frame.
By Fd Schmidt/Ass't Field Service Manager
Bally Sente Service
Franklin Park, IL
The following rrodification MUST be
performed on all Sente nain frame cables
that work in conjunction with the NAME
THAT TUNE conversion kit.
A quick way to determine if the cable
rrodification has been made is to look at
the Power Supply connector Pl9 at pins 10
and 11. If a GREEN-wHITE wire is connected
to pin 10 and a GREEN-RED wire is
connected to pin 11, the rrodification has
been installed. See Figure "A".
Failure to nake this rrodification may
result in garbage on screen or the picture
may freeze intermittantly.
I
Each NAME THAT TUNE kit contains a "naster
cable kit", which includes two wires for
installation into your respective Bally
Sente main frarre cable.
If not, then the naster cable asserrbly
rrust be rrodified, using the mME THAT 'IUNE
master cable kit as follows:
The pur:[X)se of this cable rrodification is
to replace the regulated +12 v.n.c. with
unregulated +12 v.n.c. to your respective
main frarre cable. This change will provide
a +12 v.n.c. unregulated buss line to the
mME THAT TUNE control i:anel, player one
and player two lamps.
A. Cut the GREEN-wHITE or GREEN wire at
location "K" of cable connector P7 (22
:[X>Sition). Then strip "this" wire for
later use with wire nut. Please cut as
close as :[X>ssible to the connector.
B. Connect the cable kit GREEN-WHITE wire
from the Power Supply connector Pl9, Pin
10, to the GREEN-WIUTE or GREEN wire you
cut at location "K" of cable connector P7.
After both wires are stripped and joined
together, install the wire nut provided in
As current production of Sac IB main frame
units already include this cable
rrodification, no work will be required on
your part. However, Bally Sente main frarre
