Bally Sente NAME THAT TUNE Test
By Bally Sente Service
Franklin Park, IL
Due to the size of the Game Program, the
standard test procedure for Bally Sente
games could not be incorporated into this
game. This does not mean that tests are
not available, only that they are not
obvious to the operator.
PROCEDURE:
To enter the test node, flip the test
switch to the "on" position. The screen
displays the message, "Please stai:id By'~ •
During this time the sound board is being
tested and will display an error message
if it finds a problem. It will then
display:
"THE NUMBER OF SOliGS"
"THE NUMBER OF CATAGORIE.S"
"THE NUMBER OF BID 'IOPICS"
Pressing the "Player One" start button,
displays the song 0000 (in hexadecimal).
Pressing.the "Player Two" #1 button,
increments the tune selection to song
0001. Holding in this button will cause
the displayed songs to rapidly scan
forward.
Operating the "Player One" #1 button works
in the same manner scanning the tune
selection in the opposite direction.
Once a song is selected, press "Player
One" start button to activate the tune.
This will execute the entire portion of
that song stored in meroory provided no
other push buttons are operated. For a
nine note rendition of the same song,
without cords or background, press "Player
Two" start button.
To continue with the test, just use
"Player One" or "Player Two" #1 button to
make your next selection and repeat the
procedure. To exit the test, return the
test switch to the "off" position and
after a short pause, the game should
return to the attract node.
If you should encounter any problems,
please contact Bally Sente service at
1-800-323-7182.

The Need For A
Professional Presentation
Dull Bit Problem

Tooay, the kit business is an irrportant
part of our industry. The right kit
installed into a dedicated cabinet is the
backbone of this segrrent of the business.
A good quality/designed cabinet should
have a useful life of 5-10 years.
I've got a problem I'm sure many other
operators have. Conversion kits usually
require additional holes drilled into the
control panel. Buttons usually require a
hole 1-1/8" in diameter and a drill bit
that large is very expensive and dulls
easily on the rretal.
Look at our "ASTEROIDS" that are now
alrrost 10 years. Most of them are in
exc 7 llent shape tooay. The plywood Midway
cabinets are superb. Not all cabinets
retain their looks, however.
We've found a Greenley punch works but
since the metal is so thick that the punch
also dulls after 3 or 4 holes.
Any other suggestions for putting these
holes in the control panel?
About 8 rronths ago, I purchased several
Data East "Ca.1MANDOS". My "ASTEROIDS" are
in better shape! The reason for this is
the design of the cabinets.
Atari has had the floor recessed to
protect the sides of the cabinet. This is
v 7 ry effective in protecting the lower
sides of the cabinet from damage. Data
East front sides of the cabinet extends
rruch further out than all others. They are
easily damaged when we rrove these games.
The biggest blunder of all are their
~eg-levelers. They are held in place by an
inner/outer threaded stud. The stud has
about 4 threads going into a cheap wafer
board floor. Bob Lloyd from Data East
inforrred rre that the same people who made
Atari cabinets made theirs, also.
Cutting too much cost from the cabinet
shows. On all Data East cabinets such as
these, I recornrend installing a new
plywood floor under the original. Midway
makes the best leg leveler bracket.
Many other games have similar defects.
Most of our rroves with games are done in a
pick-~p with ~ibbed floors. If the leg
goes into a dip, the side may get ripped
off. Our industry needs to set a standard
for quality of the base of the game.
Needless to say, all manufacturers and
operators should cooperate for the
betterment of our industry.
