to the 'World Famous McKinley Music' " says
D. W. Foster, "and the new catalogs that the
company is distributing among their dealers in
large quantities are bringing excellent results.
These numbers are considered an unusually
good lot and offer special window displays
through their original title pages. The saxo-
phone and piano pieces, which are an innova-
tion in fifteen-cent music, are more than meet-
ing expectations.
"Our popular catalog is also coining in for its
share and is progressing rapidly. 'The Trail to
Long Ago,' a great harmony ballad, which was
released in word roll by the U. S. Music Co.
this month, is selling very big and indications
are that it will be one of the best sellers during
1923. 'There's Only One Pal After All,' last
year's hit, continues to sell in big quantities,
while our ballad, 'When You Long for a Pal
Who Would Care,' was released in December
on Victor records and has developed into a
steady seller. The newer ballads, 'I Am Lone-
some for You, Dear Old Pal' and 'Sahara
Moon,' are coming rapidly to the front, as well
as 'Old Plantation Blues' and 'Hawaii' (I Am
Dreaming of You)."

Indications Point to a Prosperous Year for Mc-
Kinley Music Co.—New Numbers and Many
New Improvements Create Increased De-
mand for Line
CHICAGO, III., February 19.—The beginning of
1923 has shown excellent results for the Mc-
Kinley line and business seems to be well
started for a prosperous year, according to offi-
cials of the company. The announcement of
the many new numbers and improvements
which have been added to the McKinley fifteen-
cent music is popularizing this line all over
the country. Some time ago the McKinley
Music Co. announced that the entire line had
been reduced to the standard three-quarter size
carrying artistic two-color covers. Since this
announcement the company has enjoyed a large
increase in business and has received many
complimentary letters from dealers stating their
appreciation of the many improvements and re-
lating the excellent window displays that are
possible and increased sales the improvements
have brought them.

CHICAGO, 111., February 17.—One of the newer
publishing concerns in this city is coming to
the front very rapidly by virtue of its new hit,
"In Rose Time." This is a waltz melody, the
words and music by Edna J. Allen Philips, a
writer whose numbers show entire originality
and who is head of the Mid-West Music House.

Among the new songs added to the catalog
of M. Witmark & Sons which are showing-
unusual activity are "Gone, but Still in My
Heart," a novelty fox-trot from the pens of
EJenton Ley and Lee David, who will be re-
membered as the writers of "Where the Volga
Flows," one of last year's particular successes
with orchestras. These two writers are under
exclusive contract with the Witmark firm, which
some time back took over several numbers from
another publishing catalog the music of which
is by Lee David. Another addition to the
Witmark catalog which is having popular favor
is "When Will the Sun Shine for Me?" by Benny
Davis and Abner Silver, writers of "Angel
Child" and "Say it While Dancing." The pub-
lishers have inaugurated an extensive publicity

Title Page of "In Rose Time"
sidered to be by many one of the most elaborate
and highly original title pages ever put forth
by a music publisher, as the illustration shows
two beautiful full bloom roses in white, set off
from a gray monotone background. The letter-
ing is in outline black and the complete title
page is harmonized in gray, so that it offers a
decidedly attractive set-up for display purposes.
"In Rose Time" is being played in Chicago
at the leading theatres. The new Tom Payton
Song Shop has featured this number, with an
entire window beautifully displaying the title
page in a most attractive manner. A campaign
has been started by the company to promote this
hit in conjunction with the talking machine rec-
ords, which will be released March 1.

PORTLAND, ORE., February 16.—The entire sheet
music department of the Oregon Eilers Music
House, bankrupt, was purchased by Louis W.
Mack, sheet music dealer at 120 Broadway,
together with the handsome mahogany fixtures
of the department.
The stock was quite an extensive one and
consisted of more than 200,000 pieces of sheet
music, practically all of which are classical num-
bers from nearly every prominent publisher in
the country. The house had accumulated a
large stock which was made up of many stocks
which were consolidated by Eilers into a sheet
music department that from a classical point
of view had few equals in the Northwest.
The firm had bought in the Graves Music
Co., and several others, going back for a number
of years. Mr. Mack already has a large stock
on hand and will co-ordinate this with his old
stock, and where there are duplications he will
in the immediate future put on a sale and dis-
pose of the duplications, maintaining the depart-
ment at the same standard.
STARK & COWAN, INC., EXPANDS
Stark & Cowan, Inc., which during the past
year has published a series of successful popu-
lar songs, has greatly enlarged its sales and
professional organization. It now announces the
following representatives and branch offices in
leading cities throughout the country: Lou
Forden, Chicago, 111.; John Hcinzman, San
Francisco, Cal.; Nat Madison, Hoston, Mass.;
Bill Schuyler, Pittsburgh, Pa.; Chester Car-
penter, Detroit, Mich., and Jack Walters, Min-
neapolis, Minn.
