LAWTON CHOOSES "THE CROCODILE'
Wants Irving Berlin Song for Feature Motion
Picture Coming to Broadway Theatre
Stanley W. Lawton, general music director of
the B. S. Moss vaudeville theatres, has an excel-
lent reputation as an arranger of musical set-
tings for feature pictures. In addition he is the
composer of the music for two vaudeville acts,
"The Human Victrola" and "Usher's Quartet."
Recently he visited the office of Irving Berlin,
Inc., in an endeavor to find something in an
Oriental theme which could be used in a big
motion picture shortly to be produced. On hear-
ing the Berlin publication, "The Crocodile," he
immediately accepted it as the most appropriate
number for his purpose. The picture, in con-
junction with the music of "The Crocodile," has
not yet been announced. However, it is de-
scribed as an unusual production produced by
a very large organization.
'SWANEE" AS POPULAR AS EVER
"Swanee," the big success in the catalog of
T. R. Harms and Francis, Day & Hunter, con-
tinues to increase in popularity, as is shown by
its use by well known vaudeville artists and the
sales of the number reported by the trade.
"Swanee" was originally sung by Al. Jolson.

Three-day Convention Held at Hotel Pennsyl-
vania, New York, This Week
On Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of this
week there was held at the Hotel Pennsylvania,
New York, a conference of Eastern music super-
visors. In addition to the meeting, there were
a number of exhibits by the various music pub-
lishing houses who give attention to the teaching
field. On Wednesday evening there was held
a banquet of the supervisors, at which many of
the publishers and a number of their song writ-
ers were guests. Much of the activity shown
by the publishers at the meetings was under
the direction of Henry Teller of Witmark's.

Everybody says so ! Why ? Because their enormous output permits the manufacture of
an instrument it is impossible to equal for the money on any lesser scale of production.
