Century Music Pub. Co.
231-235 West 40th Street, NEW YORK
SAN FRANCISCO, CAL., August 8.—Sherman, Clay
& Co.'s publishing department has been busy
during the past two weeks and has brought out
an even half a dozen songs. E. P. Little, in
charge of the department, enumerates them as
follows, and says they are all catching on: "Oh
Angelo," "When Honey Sings an Old-Time
Song," "When Twilight Shadows Are Falling,"'
"Little Northern Window," "Sometimes" and
"When It's Sunset in Sweden." The hit of the
sextet to date has been "When Honey Sings an
Old-Time Song." This was sung all this week
at the Imperial Theatre by Joe Stiegler, an
oversea sergeant, who has something of a re-
markable voice. The strains from the old-time
songs which run through the composition were
greeted with an applause which seemed to
demonstrate that the public yearns for the good
old songs of a generation ago.
G. Schirmer, the music publisher, who has
been visiting here, returned to Chicago this
week. H. Andrews, of the same publishing
house, is expected here next week.

J. F. Coots, of the New York office of the
McKinley Music Co., recently returned from a
successful business trip to Atlantic City, where
he found that many members of the theatrical
profession playing engagements at that resort
were featuring numbers from his firm's cata-
log.
In the trade channels he found both the syn-
dicate stores and the dealers were having good
calls for such numbers as "Sweet Hawaiian
Moonlight," "White Heather," "Oh Lady,"
"Weeping Willow Lane" and the Oriental num-
ber "Oasis."
RECOGNITION FOR THE "BLUES"
W. C. Handy, head of the Pace & Handy
Music Co., Inc., was recently presented by the
Chamber of Commerce of St. Louis, Mo., with a
large photograph of the skyline of that city.
This was in recognition of his work as the au-
thor of "St.. Louis Blues." The photograph has
been worked into an artistic design for a title
cover soon to appear on a revised edition of the
"St. Louis Blues." The new edition will be
placed in the 30-cent catalog of the company.
It is also announced by the firm that all of the
Handy "Blues" numbers will be published as
high-priced numbers.

THE MUSIC TRADE REVIEW
SONG GETTING MUCH PUBLICITY
Fisher-Thompson Music Co. Featuring
Been A'Longin' For You"
"I've
The Fisher-Thompson Music Pub. Co., Butte,
Mont., are giving much publicity to their song,
"I've Been A'Longin' for You." The number
is being received most favorably and is being
featured by such stars as Julia Dika and Rose
Valyda, both of whom are enthusiastic over the
merit of the number. Over 5,000 orchestras
have received orchestrations of the song and it
is receiving much publicity from those sources.
The firm are using the trade and professional
papers extensively in giving the number pub-
licity. They are receiving the co-operation of
the syndicate stores as well as the leading job-
bers of the country and from present indications
the song bids fair to be one of the large suc-
cesses of the fall season.
"WHITE HEATHER" IS POPULAR
McKinley Music Co. Song Featured in Con-
junction With Photoplay
"The White Heather," a song published by
the McKinley Music Co., issued in conjunction
with the Paramount Art-Craft Photoplay of the
same name, is gaining popularity rapidly. The
above publishers have the co-operation of the
film exchanges, motion picture exhibitors and
the sheet music and syndicate stores in dis-
tributing this song. In addition it has been
recorded by a large number of the various talk-
ing machine record and player roll manufac-
turing companies.

AUGUST ISSUE OF "THE TRADE"
MONTCLAIR, N. J., August 11.—The songs chosen
at the nightly "community singing" in Mont-
clair's only theatre recently have been of such
a frivolously topical character that "highbrow"
patrons have objected. As one man told the
management, the "curl and girl" songs seemed
too silly for grown persons to sing in public
assemblage.
"An adult may escape looking like a fool
singing them," he said, "but he cannot help
feeling like one." The management, in answer
to protests, said that a short time ago the audi-
ence wanted war songs, but more recently has
expressed a preference for songs of lighter vein.
The August issue of The Trade, the house
oigan of G. Schirmer, Inc., was recently for-
warded to the dealers throughout the country.
A resume of the convention of the National As-
sociation of Sheet Music Dealers, which was
held in New York in June, is given a feature
position in the number. Much other material,
which should be eagerly read by the trade, is
found in the issue and with its newsy style
it should be eagerly awaited each month.
INCORPORATED IN NEW HAMPSHIRE
The Fahey-Rocheleau Co. have filed a certifi-
cate of incorporation with the Secretary of
State of New Hampshire and will open up a
music publishing business in the city of Man-
chester. The capitalization of the new con-
cern is $5,000 and Peter J. Fahey, Adam R.
Rocheleau and Edward C. Smith, of Manchester,
are the incorporators.
FEIST PURCHASES^'QOLDEN GATE"
Leo Feist, Inc., have purchased "Golden
Gate" from Kendis & Brockman. The song is
from the pens of the writers of "I'm Forever
Blowing Bubbles." It has already received
much publicity and is, to say the least, a most
promising number.
TO OPEN PHILADELPHIA BRANCH
Gilbert & Friedland, Inc., the well-known New
York music publishing house, have acquired
quarters for a Philadephia branch in the Gim-
bel block of that city, 829 Chestnut street.
FEIST BUYS ANOTHER SONG
Leo Feist, Inc., have acquired the publishing
rights of the song, "I'm Always Building Castles
in the Air" from the Ted Garton Music Co. The
number is by the writers of "Belgian Rose,"
Ted Garton and A. Fred Phillips.
