DITSON BOOK FOR SINGERS
"Simple Truths Used by Great Singers" is
the title of a new book published by the Oliver
Ditson Co., Boston, Mass. This book, which
is of great interest to singers, is written by
Sarah Robinson-Duff and is dedicated to her
first pupil, Mary Garden. It gives in a clear
way the fundamentals of the requirements of
a singer and points out the results of the au-
thor's long experience as a singer and teacher
of vocal art.

Little things like a broken rib and a few
score of angry bruises didn't keep L. Wolfe Gil-
bert from his regular display of energy. Gilbert
sustained these painful injuries when he was
thrown out of his automobile on November 20.
A few days after the accident Gilbert had com-
pleted the journey from New York to Detroit
and had commenced a two weeks' vaudeville en-
gagement in that city. The incident conclusive-
ly demonstrated the Gilbert gameness and ten-
acity of purpose. His reward lies in the fact
that his songs, "Granny," "Dreamy Amazon,"
"Old Joe Blues" and the baby of the family,
"I'm So Tired of Dreaming, Dixie Lee," are
selling at a record-breaking clip in Detroit, as
indeed they are in almost every locality.
"Granny" heads the list of sellers in a goodly
proportion of the stores handling popular-priced
numbers, and is a notable contender for win-
ning honors. Even in Great Britain its sales
are already tremendous, by report of H. Dar-
ewski, the great English publisher who con-
trols its sales abroad. "Dreamy Amazon" is
one of the best-selling high-class waltz songs
ever published, and its sales continue to in-
crease." A newcomer is "That Beloved Cheater
of Mine," by L. Wolfe Gilbert and Edna Wil-
liams, a tuneful, appealing song based on a
new Robertson-Cole photoplay feature. Hearers
have predicted for it a genuine success, even
apart from any value that be attached to its
affiliation with the film, which is also looked
upon as a potential popular success.
