Plans for the "Back to Baltimore" movement
were made at a meeting of Marylanders at the
Army and Navy Club Friday evening. More than
100 are expected to go on the special train that
will carry the Old Guard of New York, which is
to take part in the celebration. They will leave
on September • 10, and another special train will
convey the Seventh Regiment. Col. J. Frank Sup-
plee is chairman of the committee that is arrang-
ing the visit.
Baltimore is spending $175,000 to make this
celebration of the national anthem's one hun-

LONTON, E N C , July 31.—Infringement of copy-
right was alleged against Caruso, the famous tenor,
in the Chancery Division last month. Dighton
Pollock, on behalf of Mme. Meyerheim, the plain-
tiff in an action against Signor Caruso and John
Church & Co., publishers, moved for an injunction
to restrain the defendant company from infringing
the copyright in a book written by the plaintiff
called "L'Art du Chant Technique."
Counsel said that the book written by Signor
Caruso and printed by the defendant company con-
tained several pages taken from the plaintiff's book,
and it was entitled "How to Sing."
Mr. Manning, for the company, said it knew
nothing about this claim until it received the writ.
The company purchased the copyright in the work
not from Caruso, but from another company.
The court made an order in accordance with an
undertaking given by the company.

THAT with Lehar, Kalmann and other prominent
composers of Viennese operettas facing service in
the big war it looks as though the American libret-
tists and composers will have a chance to prove
their worth during the next couple of seasons.
THAT in the natural order of things some live
dance originator should announce the "hound dog
lope" to have a little edge on the new "fox trots."
THAT the role of song censor assumed by the
United Booking Offices has resulted in one promi-
nent comedienne forfeiting several weeks' booking
for singing a forbidden number.
THAT if the idea grows the publishers will have
to put "Passed by United Booking Offices" on their
music for the protection of the performers.
THAT some performers have taken to the com-
posing and selling of popular songs for the purpose
of tiding them over the various seasons of forced
"rest."
THAT the experiences of at least two song writers
recently go to prove that the name of the composer
is of little value if his productions are not up to
standard.
THAT, especially in the popular music game, the
success of a dozen ballads does not in any way
insure the success of the thirteenth.
THAT, if the New York publishers continue to
harmonize, we may expect to see a local copy of the
annual summer outing held by the Boston publish-
ers for many years past.
THAT singers are complaining about the difficulty
in securing free professional copies of popular
songs in some cases, which is really an excellent
sign.
