SUBJECT
The Bally/Williams pinball
games with the new WPC boards
are probably the best in the in-
dustry with few problems that are
difficult to solve.
However, lately I have encoun-
tered an intermittent problem
which seems to affect any of the
games and can be difficult to nar-
row down which prompted me
to contribute this tip.
PROBLEM
Game resets when both flippers
are pressed or intermittently lock
up.
SourrmN
B R2, the bridge rectifier for the
5 volt supply may be breaking
down from excessive heat
buildup.
To verify this, check the voltage
on the top left pin on BR2 located
on the WPC Power Driver As-
sembly and is bolted to a heatsink
with BRl. The voltage should
read over 9 volts (9.3 typical).
If you measure 8.5 volts or less,
replace the rectifier.

If you cannot locate a suitable
rectifier, don't despair, you can
swap BR2 with BR4 with no
problems. BR4 powers the flash
lamps and the only possible side
effect would be dim flash lamps.
Also, please ensure the heatsink
on BRl and BR2 is tight- a loose
heatsink only contributes to rec-
tifier failure.
