PREMATURE TIME OUT
SYMPTOM
During game play the ball gate
raises with time remaining on the
time clock. This keeps the bas-
ketballs from continuing to roll
down while the player still has
time remaining during game
play.
POSSIBLE CAUSES
There could be are several situa-
tions which are occurring that
could cause this symptom. They
are all related to the rotation sen-
sor which is located in the back
of the game near the motor driver
board inside the rear access door.

worm screw which has the reflec-
tive tape attached at the rear end
of the screw. If the reflective tape
is not clean, then the opto assem-
bly cannot distinguish between
the light and dark areas on the
tape and thus keeps the motor
from being "timed" to its proper
location during game play.
CALIBRATION
The other possibility is that the
rotation sensor itself needs to be
calibrated. The following proce-
dure will calibrate the amount of
travel during each motor pulse.
CLEAN TAPE
The rotation sensor detects, via
an opto assembly and reflective
tape, how far the backboard trav-
els during each motor pulse.
Make sure that the striped black
and white reflective tape is clean.
There is a tendency for rubber-
ized dust to collect inside the
game in the area of the motor
For future reference, let's refer to
the "Home" position as the posi-
tion when the backboard is in the
"fully back" position at the time
of game power-up.
The folks at National Sports
Garnes have provided a diagnos-
tics feature into the game which
tests the hardware in the game.
To access this feature, press the
small button switch on top of the
logic board housing. Follow the
directions to enter the Hardware
Tests portion of the menu and
then into the Sensor Test.
The backboard should still be at
the Home position and the
"Travel" item on the display
should read in the range from
000 to 002.
