Redemption meters. I have a
couple of questions about the at-
tachment of a meter to a DL-1275
ticket dispenser (see S*TJMarch
'94, V16/Nl).
I have attached a 12V meter to a
Deltronic's DL-1275 board with-
out replacing the 2N2222 and
have had no problems.
Our
My first question is, what hap-
pens when (not if) the dispenser
runs out of tickets? The dispenser
would see a continuous "notch"
and your TIP 120 would be on all
the time providing a continuous
12V to a SV meter.
RUN
HI VOLTS
Secondly, what if the game sup-
plies TTL level SV on the notch
line. (The game supplies the high
signal and the dispenser pulls it
low when it sees a notch.) A
meter attached to 12V will pull
this 5Vup to 12V possibly dam-
aging the game board.
XSISTORS
It certainly doesn't hurt to replace
the 2N2222 with a TIP120 tran-
sistor. But If you would look at a
schematic for Deltronic's DL-4,
you would see that they use a
2N2222 fqr a ticket meter output.
And it drives a 12V meter.

I used a couple of diodes to iso-
late the meter pull-up voltage
from the game board pull-up
voltage and visa versa.
PROCEDURE
• First, cut the notch output
wire.
• On the side going to the
. ticket dispenser board, at-
tach the cathodes of two di-
odes (1N4001, 1N4002, etc.).
• Connect the anode of one
of the diodes to the notch
wire going to the game.
• Connect the anode of the
other diode to one lead of a
12Vmeter.
• The other lead goes to 12V
( or if you want use a SV
meter, connect the other
lead toSV).
• Finally put a third diode
across the meter for fly-back
protection ( cathode to 12V
or SV).

Blown diodes.
CAUSE
Remember to turn off the
game before attempting
to clear the Ram.
PRECAUTION
If you don't, you can eas-
ily blow the diodes in lo-
cations D 1 and D2.
