Williams/Bally General Illumination
Two Step Modification
SUBJECT
Have you ever had to replace a
plug on a Williams/Bally general
illumination circuit becaus.e it
was burnt?
Well as soon as you stop laughing
and compose yourself we'll go on.
SOLUTION
I've been using this procedure for
a couple of years now and it seems
to be holding up pretty well for
me.
NOTE
This particular modification is
for the newer Williams/Bally
pins using the backbox intercon-
nect board part #'s D-12313-576
(Williams) and D-12313-2011
(Bally); different #'s, same board.
PARTS NEEDED
• 9 pin female molex
connector
• 8 molex "crimp"
style terminals
(Wico #21-582500)
• 40" zip cord (18
gauge)
• heat shrink tubing
OVERVIEW
Rather than a
single wire jumped
across two pins, the
zip cord will dissi-
pate the heat
much like a heat
sink saving you ser-
vice c alls and
fuses. With every-
thing assembled,
this mod takes
about 10 minutes
tops. Since I started
using this mod, I've
had no more burnt
plugs!
PROCEDURE
Step 1
Cut zip cord into 4 - 10"
sections, solder 8 termi-
nals on one end and in-
sert into female plug
leaving pin #5 open for
key. Strip, twist together
and tin each of the four
sections of zip. Slide heat
shrink over zip.
Step2
Remove J6 from B.I.
Board. Note wiring and
cut wires 2" from burnt
plug. Solder wires to new
plug prepared in Step 1
and cover joints with
shrink tubing. Attach
two wire ties and your
done. Reattach J6.
NOTE
When performing this mod, I re- ~·
moveB.I. Boardandresolder and
clean J6. If pins don't clean to a
shiny finish I replace it.
