The Ticket Bypass Circuit
SUBJECT
PROJECT
Redemption games are an interesting addition to
the Amusement Industry since the game player
now gets something in return for money spent,
Tickets. These then can be redeemed for prizes.
Never fear! The ticket by-pass is here! This easy-
to-build circuit "fakes out" the game logic into
thinking the ticket dispenser is still connected.
PROBLEM
But, what if you don't want your games to vend
tickets? Say your having a private birthday party
and your charging X number of dollars per kid.
Vending tickets at this time will increase your
prize percentages (not good!).
Another example for NOT vending tickets would
be to repair the game, you would not want the
game to vend tickets every time you hit the 100
points switch.
SOLUTION
Disconnecting the ticket dispenser or removing
the tickets will work with some games, but with
games like Skee-Balt a HELP message is dis-
played indicating trouble with the ticket dis-
penser. Once the HELP message is displayed,
you must reset the game by disconnecting power
(a hassle since there is no on-off switch).
Of course, _there is a dip switch to "tum off' the
dispenser, but you must climb up to the score
display to switch this dip switch! And again,
reset the game to recognize the new switch
setting.
But what about the games that electronically
store unvended tickets like Doyles Hoop Shot.
This game does not have a dip switch to tum off
the dispenser. So it "remembers" tickets that
have not been vended. So once the dispenser
trouble has been corrected, the game goes crazy
vending tickets.
This single I. C. circuit uses the ever popular 555
timer. Plus, all the parts for this project are
available at Radio Shack or Wico! (Radio Shack
parts number are in parentheses.)

PROCEDURE
The Ticket By-Pass is easily built on the dual I. C.
Board from Radio Shack or you can use point to
point wiring on a perf. board.
Follow the schematic below to assemble this
circuit, it is very straight forward so no problems
should be encountered.
INl11AL TEST
To test the circuit before you connect it to the
game, jumper the motor enable wire to the +12
volts and connect the circuit to power (12 volts
and ground).
With a logic probe or oscilloscope, check the
"notch" output. It should be pulsing. If it is not
pulsing, tum the 1,000,000 Ohm pot until it
does.
