SUBJECT
PROBLEM
Thought I'd throw in my two cents on the Rowe
CD scratched discs and wrong play problems
after reading the May issue.
We have received some complaints of horizontal
output transistors failing more than once in the
same chassis.
PROBLEM
CAUSE
We presently are operating about 80 Rowe CD's
mostly CD-51's. The biggest problem I've come
across is the Sprag Gear assembly being out of
line.
The problem appears to be related to the damper
diode (D 18).
CAUSE
Check to see if the disc is being set too close to
the left hand rack in the magazine. The disc
should be centered in the rack. I've had several
hitting the magazine rack to the left (play side of
disc) resulting in scratched discs. I actually had
one disc just about forced through the magazine
rack and split it. This will also cause wrong play
as magazine will sometimes play to right or left
of selected disc throwing off home position on
that revolution (05-05).
SOLUTION
Loosen three screws in Sprag Gear assembly and
center Gripper Bow on magazine rack just like
old Rowe 45 rpm units.

SOLUTION
We highly recommend that anyone changing the
horizontal output transistor (Q 11) also change
the damper diode (D 18) at the same time. This
takes care of the multiple failure mode.
If any operators or service personnel have ques-
tions regarding the proper diode to use. please

vices. Wells Gardner 312/252-8220. Fax 312/
