Bally Vs Wnis
Flippers

PROBLEM
PROBLEM
Game service makes some of the strangest co-
incidences. I've had a rash of broken flippers in
Elvira & Dr Dude this week. The Bally grooved
design flipper does not have the same strength
as the Williams flipper (which I suspect is made
by Wico).
Input chip IC62 (TC0040IOC), A CMOS IC gets
knocked out by static, resulting in the game not
setting up. The usual tip-off IC62 is bad is that
you can rub your finger across the top of the chip
and feel a hump in its center.
SOLUTION
After replacing chip, remove 20 caps as follows:
C83 - C92, and Cl08 - Cll 7 and replace with
IN4 735 zener diodes (5.1 v) with the banded side
of the diodes facing away from the edge con-
nector.
PREVENTATIVE CURE
The plastic paddles have been separating from
the shaft and I do not like flipper service. It's too
dirty. When they break, just replace them with
the Williams type and save yourself some service
in the future.
Betson Crane
Claw String
Jamie Saccullo
Mr. Packman Enterprises
Ft. Lauderdale, Florida
PROBLEM
On a Betson Crane, when the claw comes down
and hits the top of the toys, it takes 2 seconds
longer to close and reverse the motor. This
causes the string to fully unwind and then when
it does reverse. the string winds up backwards
and is then inoperable thereafter. Changing the
trolly assembly, MPU board. checking all wiring
and switches has no effect.
This shunts any static spike over 5.1 v to groun~
and also shunts the negative portion of the
spike. Bulk zeners 100/$20 are available from
All Electronics Inc., toll-free 800-826-5432.
Data East Pinball
Spring Mod

PROBLEM
Ball does not always come out ofball trough onto
shooter lane of playfleld.
CAUSE
Ball strikes playfield and then rests between
playfield and next ball rolling down.
SOLUTION
Check the switch at the top by the pulleys. It is
the one that the string touches as it moves. If it
is not adjusted properly the machine doesn't
know that the claw has reached the bottom and
the motor keeps running until it reverses.
SOLUTION
Remove spring from ball trough eject assembly~
(Data East part #500-5012-00). Remove
(shorten) 10 windings from spring. Reinstall
spring. I have not had the service call on any
pinball since.

Future scanning projects are planned by the International Arcade Museum Library (IAML).
