New Heavy Duty Power Supply Source

PROBLEM
What do you do when your game has a bad
power supply that is rated at 20 amps at 5 volts?
Most of us do not stock a spare for this type of
supply so it looks like we have to repair the bad
one.
CAUSE
You discover a bad switching transistor that
costs more than twice the price of a whole new
power supply (if you can even find a store that
carries them).
much as the one described above) requires that
a cooling fan be used when the load reaches a
certain level.
ADVANTAGES
At its cubic size of 6" x 6", our cheaper supply is
bulkier than the Peter Chou style, but it already
has a built-in fan.
SOLUTION
Ramon, our senior technician, took it upon
himself to find a cheaper solution. Since videos
are really computers, then they should share
some of the same components with their home
and commercial cousins. Prices of computer
components tend to be lower anyway than those
of our industry ...
After checking several local computer supply
houses, Ramon not only found a cheap source
for the transistors but found the whole power
supply for only $24.99 (less than the price of a
12 amp Peter Chou supply) with the following
ratings:
21 AMPS at +5 volts
7.5 AMPS at + 12 volts
0.3 AMPS at -5 volts
0.3 AMPS at -12 volts
• built-in fan included
• The industry standard Peter Chou style supply
rated at 15 amps (which costs about twice as
Peter Chou Supply
Another notable advantage is the availability of
-12 volts, which is not present on Peter Chou
supplies that I have seen. This power _supply
makes an excellent replacement on both new
and older games.
