A. Atari
We have not received complaints on our control
panel connectors. We had one game, Gauntlet.
which had the wrong size connectors but that
problem was fixed.
It is very labor intensive to solder on control
panel connections which means an increase in
cost. It would also mean that to change a switch
in the field would take twice as long and require
a soldering iron.
Q. Pinballs have an AC service outlet, why is
it that video games don't?
A. Sega
Pinball machines have hundreds of soldered
connections. There is a real need for a outlet to
plug in a solder iron or a lamp. On the other
hand videos are mostly crimp connections and
only have a few wires (compared to pinball).
With the move to PC type power supplies that
some Video manufactures are looking towards,
you might get an outlet thrown in free.
A. Atari
On pinballs you often have to solder on the coils.
Video games don't need one, so why increase
costs.
