Sega Galaxy Force Bad Welds
Erik Wittenzellner
Kemp Enterprises
South Windsor, Connecticut
PROBLEM
For the operators of the Sega Galaxy ForceS/D,
if you have to reset the bank pot to attain a level
game, chances are your machine is self-de-
structing.
band of steel, which the turntable motor wheel
rides on, were also broken and needed repair. I
also checked all of the other components which
cannot be replaced when the unit is together,
better safe than sony.
CAUSE
The main tilt frame assembly which the turn-
table rides on has quite a bit of force on it when
it is tilted to its limits because of the weight of
this game.
The post which hangs down to the bottom of the
machine and drives the tilt of the turntable is
made of a light gauge box steel and is not
reinforced where it connects to the tilt frame.
Over time the welds had broken and caused the
machine to drop forward, unable to level itself.
DISASSEMBLY
Disassembly is quite straight forward. The
hardest part is lifting the turntable off the base,
as you must get this about 2-1/2 feet in the air.
I used the lift gate on one of my trucks to lift the
machine high enough. An overhead chain fall
would work better. The machine weighs about
1000 pounds, so you must have a sturdy lifting
point.
SOLUTION
We are fortunate enough to have a small mig
welder in our shop and I was able to weld the
broken frame and reinforce it as required.
A good time to replace motor brushes too. If you
have one of these units, I am sure you know the
importance of keeping it running properly.
I hope this will aid in troubleshooting and repair
of the unit. Ifl can answer any questions on this
procedure, feel free to call me at 203/282-7396.

Force Display Error

PROBLEM
You have a Williams Police Force and are getting
a message on the display which says "Adjust
Failure." Turning the game off then on again
does not clear the message. You have to open the
coin door, then power down to clear. What does
this mean, and, of course, there isn't any info in
the manual covering this symptom.
CAUSE
I am sure it would have cost $300.00 or more to
fix this ifwe sent it out and it would have taken
a lot longer to repair.
The message just means there's garbage in the
battery backed RAM.
NOTE
It could be dead batteries, a bad RAM, or a bad
I also noticed that many of the welds on the outer
blocking diode in the battery switch over circuit.
SOLUTION

Future scanning projects are planned by the International Arcade Museum Library (IAML).
