Seeburg CD Box Code Changes

SUBJECT
Information on improving the price setting limita-
tions of the Seeburg CD Jukebox (SCD). This article
contains code modifications that will enhance the
profitability of this CD juke.
PROCEDURE
The SCD price settings are set via the front keypad of
the SCD after turning the price set dipswitch to "on".
Any entries you make are compared to a table of max/
min values for that setting. If they are not within the
prescribed limitations an ERROR message is dis-
played on the seven segment display. Because the
location of these constants will be different from one
Eprom update to the next these changes will only
~work for the "J3" revision of the Eprom.
IDENTIFICATION
The version number is printed on the one and only
Eprom on the CPU board. It will be of the form "SCD-
xx-yy" where xx is the model # of the jukebox itself
(typically IA, although a newer model has just come
out with a different style front), and yy is the program
revision number (in this case J3). If you have an
earlier version than J3 you should obtain the J3
version from Seeburg as it fixes many bugs in the
program and is available free. (Seeburg has an awful
habit of forgetting to notify its customers of Eprom
revisions.)
CODE CHANGES
In your Epromyou should find the following numbers
(all in HEX):
ADDRESS:DATA
104:33
105:10
106:76
These are the maximum and default values for the I
~ dollar vend price, the number of bonus credits re-
ceived for two I dollar vends (prior to making any
selections), and the multiplier value for a five dollar
vend respectively. The high nibble in each byte con-
tains the maximum allowable setting, and the low
nibble the factory setting.
For the data shown, the maximum allowable settings
are: 3 plays/dollar: I bonus credit/two I dollar
vends: 7 times multiplier.
The default settings are:
3 plays/ dollar: 0 bonus: 6 times multiplier or
(6x3=18 plays/$5).
When choosing new values remember that no value
can be lower than the factory minimums (which are
I play/ dollar: 0 bonus: 5 times multiplier). Also the
new values may not exceed 9 in any given nibble as
these numbers are stored as binary coded decimal
values and you will experience unpredictable results
with the values A through F.
I suggest setting all of the maximums to 9 and setting
the default values to 4 plays/dollar, 0 bonus, and 5
times multiplier. The new data for these settings
would be:
ADDRESS:DATA
104:94
105:90
106:95
PROFITABILITY
We've found that a greater than a 50% increase in
play occurs by setting the box to 4 plays/dollar, no
bonus, and 5 times multiplier.
Most adults see 3 plays/dollar as being a rip-off
( especially if you've just removed an old 45 box), but
they are willing to admit that a quarter a play is fair
considering the quality and increased price of the
newer CD box.
NOTE
Be sure to reset all the audits as well as select the new
pricings from the front keypad as changing the
Eprom will not necessarily restore the factory settings
and may stop the accumulation of audit data until
you perform an audit clear for disc popularity and
weekly credits.
