4. In the event that the nunbers on the
screen 00 WI' change when you are
performing step 3, then the Photo Sensor
pcb may have failed. Check the harnessing
carefully for bad connections before
swapping out the Photo Sensor pcb.
Steering Control
Game: SPEED BUGGY Upright.
Synptom: Steering control does not
operate.
Cure: Install insulating washers under
Photo Sensor pcb.

Late m:xlel SPEED BUGGY uprights utilized
Photo Sensor pcbs that have elongated
oounting holes. This allowed for a greater
adjustment range required for other
applications. Unfortunately, it also
allows the metal oounting stand-off to
short against one of two traces on the
solder side of the Photo Sensor pcb. This
will cause the Photo Sensor pcb to cease
functioning until the shorted condition is
renoved.
On Electrohome 007 type roonitors, the
capacitor on much older games (SUPER CDBRA
Cabinets for instance) are baking their
capacitors dry. Not the largest one in the
130V B+ section, but at least five in the
Horizontal and Vertical sections.
Typical synptons are a distorted picture,
in the form of the raster being not quite
rectangular. If you are converting games,
you might want to change alroost all of the
electrolytic caps in the Horizontal and
Vertical sections.
Data F.ast USA, Inc. is now installing
insulating fiber washers between the pcb
and the metal stand-off in production to
prevent this from occuring. This procedure
is not required unless your game has the
elongated holes in the Photo Sensor pcb.
In the event a SPEED BUGGY Upright loses
its steering control, the following steps
should be taken to isolate the possible
problem:
I know that I'm not mentioning specifics,
but if you have a cap checker of any sort,
you can check them before replacing them
if you like.

1. Unlatch and open the Control Panel to
expose the Steering assenbly.

2. Activate the SELT TEST r-DDE and turn
the Steering aieel to see if the nunbers
on the screen count up or down. If not,
examine the Photo Sensor pcb to be certain
that the Optical Chopper is positioned
such that it is centered between the
optical sensors, and is not rubbing or
binding on anything. Qi.eek for a secure
connection between the harness and the
Photo Sensor pcb.

3. Renove the Optical Chopper and the
Photo Sensor pcb from the Steering
assenbly. While holding the Photo Sensor
pcb in your hand, rotate the Optical
01.opper thru the photo sensors and watc
the nunbers on the screen for any change.
If the pcb starts working, you will need
to add an insulating washer between the
Photo Sensor pcb and the two oounting
stand-offs.
