SEGA STAR TREK G-80 POWER PINS
The plug feeding the AC from the transformer to the voltage regulator assembly has been burning
the pins on the common/ground pins. The wires from the plug are black (#4 and #6) going to a
gray wire to the transformer. Connecting a black wire from board common to the gray wire will
eliminate the problem.
NINTENDO CONTROL PANELS
On the control panel, the button hole may be enlarged slightly to accept a standard Wico button.
The Wico buttons are available at much less cosl I recommend using their Lexan button. The
nylon button becomes brittle with age and breaks. There has been an excessive amount of
breakage utilizing the original Nintendo buttons.

Many of our manufacturers have cards in their games wanting to know if there are any problems
with their games. They normally get back less than I%. More operators must take the time to
inform the manufacturers what is happening in the field. The more calls they get, the more likely it
will be that a problem will be solved.
Atari has promoted Frank Becker to Manager in Field Service. He has moved from the east
coast to the west coast office to help Dari Davidson. He is available at 1-800-538-1611 or 1-408-
943-1120 to help with any problems. Stop in at the AMOA show to meet both these gentlemen.

Our industry will change more in the next year than it did in the last several years. Much of the
change will be back-to-basics. Pinballs, pool, jukeboxes, shuffie alleys, have been the backbone of
our industry. They all have one thing in common - longevity. Pinball has been down for several
years and is now making a big comeback. Many of today's operators have never operated pins.
They are much more complicated mechanically and require much more maintenance.
I will be doing several articles on pinball in the coming months. The operator must learn to
percentage each game to get the maximum income. A top pin game may only require a 25%
replay; in a marginal game, a 50% replay is needed. Keeping your pins clean is a necessity.
Videos have become a major part ofthis industry. Today's player is very critical of what he
plays. Only the best games will show a profit at full price. Many operators are finding only their
best locations justify installing new videos. During the peak of the video game boom, every
location wanted the newest and hottest games, and in most cases he received them. The operator
must learn to adjust his videos to make sure his customer receives the proper value for his quarter.
The new laser discs are now the hot item. They are all earning big money initially. As with
conventional video games, many will become 30-day wonders. Many operators see the laser discs
as a saviour of the industry. They will not be. Longevity is still the name of the game. There is no
track record for lasers yet. The cost of the game is two to three times that of what we were paying
for video games when the video boom first started. Needless to say, the price· of our conventional
video games jumped approximately $1000 during the last four years. The operators who operate
these games at normal commission rates will be further behind when the boom is over. There must
be a good guarantee or a strong percentage to the advantage of the operator with these games.
