"GALAGA" LOCK-UP MOD
SUBJECT: Game goes into Ram/Rom test or lock-up while playing
1. Check for a 4 MHz Z80-A CPU at position 4M of the CPU board.
2. Adjust for +5.2VDC. The easiest place to check this voltage is across the
capacitor labeled C-1 which is located on the upper left hand comer of the CPU
board.
3. On the power supply, solder a jumper to pin 3 from pin 2 ofIC SG3532.
4. If not already modified, change 4E and 4J to the 4 MHz Z80-A type CPU. Also
change IC SB to a 74107 (Texas Instruments) and finally clip out the 33pf
capacitor labeled CX-1. This capacitor is found either soldered on chip SB or, on
newer boards, it is located next to IC SA.

"LOOPING" LOSS OF AUDIO SOLUTIONS
* EPROM EXCHANGE * POWERSUPPLYMOD
Eprom Exchange:
A new audio program EPROM has been generated to cure the loss of audio during
play on the "Looping" logic board. The new EPROM is labeled MOD-13C.
THE PROCEDURE FOR THIS EPROM REPLACEMENT
1. Remove the small interconnect PC board which has two edge connectors that
connect the power supply to the logic circuit.
2. Remove the metal plate which covers the logic boards in the metal enclosure box.
3. Pull out the logic board which was attached to the interconnect PC board. This is
the audio logic board.
4. Locate and remove the EPROM at IC location 13C (Row C and column 13).
5. Replace the extracted EPROM with the new EPROM labeled MOD-13C.
CAUTION: Be sure the notch on the new EPROM faces the same direction as
the notches of the other ICs on the logic board.
6. Reinsert the logic board, the metal plate, and the interconnect PC board.
Contact your distributor for further information and availability.
Power Supply Modification:
Early "Looping" games may experience audio failure which is corrected by
disconnecting and reconnecting AC power to the cabinet. This condition is cured by
replacing the - 5 volt filter capacitor located on the power supply circuit board. The
-5 volt capacitor has the minus side connected next to the yellow LED. If that
capacitor is 10,000 micro farads it should be changed t& 470 micro farads.
BRIGHT STAR
NEW PRODUCT LINE
BRIGHT STAR TECHNOLOGY CORP. of Dallas, Texas is now offering two
new product lines to fight video game downtime and repair problems. Taking up
where the game manufacturers left off, Bright Star has developed a set of technical
packages with detailed, game specific information and repair aids call FAXPAKN
and FIXPAKN.
FAXPAKN is an easy-to-understand logic tutorial that describes exactly how
the hardware of a particular game works. Included are invaluable aids such as:
Functional Description; Detailed Block Diagram; Signal Mnemonic Listing,
alphabetized with a description of each signal's function; Memory Address Map
that shows the exact function of each ROM or RAM chip; 1/0 Address Map that
describes bit assignments and functions; and more.
FIXP AKN is a diagnostic test program to run on a Fluke 9000 Series
Microsystem Troubleshooter. This software is recorded on Fluke compatible
digital microcassettes packaged in a binder complete with operating instructions.
FIXPAKN instructions prompt the technician operating the Fluke 9000 Series to
probe certain points or make specific measurements on the unit under test and guide
him through a logical sequence to repair those hard-to-fix boards.
FIXPAKN and FAXPAKN from Bright Star are currently available for
Midway's PAC-MAN and MS. PAC-MAN video games. More packages will be
available soon, promising to make these latest offerings from Bright Star a
requirement for every technician, distributor, and operator currently repairing video
games.
Bright Star has, at last, provided the key that unlocks the phenomenal power of
the Fluke 9000 Series Microsystem Troubleshooter, as well as providing a detailed
explanation of the game's hardware functions. To learn more about these state-of-
the-art products, contact: Bright Star Technology Corp., 8222 Douglas, Suite 390,
